Out of warranty RROD, time for a fresh 360

I got home to find my son had managed to get the RROD on my launch 360, it has been away before about two years ago after RROD and came back repaired, but it is now out of warranty, and it is just before Christmas, so have time off, was hoping to play it myself.

So I think it is time to buy a replacement jasper model, If I get a new one, I hope I can transfer my Xbox live stuff ie gamer tag and score, do you then have to download all gamer content DLC.

I know I would have to get a data transfer cable to transfer all game saves, but it sounds that these are not easy to come by at the moment, so I can put up with loosing saves, just not DLC.

Anyone done this recently, any advice?

I do not want a PS3 thank you.

Get an xbox arcade? Theen just plug in your old HD and your away?

2nd vote for the Arcade and move the HDD across, it's the way forward!

That sounds cool, so if I put my old HDD on an arcade, it will still let me use all my data then? I was not sure if it would get a bit grumpy as it is on another console.

But i suppose if xbox send you a new 360 after repair, you can fit your HDD and you are away.

I went out and bought a Gen 3 jasper 150w/12.1a XBOX360 Arcade tonight for 129 GBP.

Fitted my HDD and component cable, no problems at all, accessed all HDD data and everything is there. The new unit is a lot quieter and power supply is a 2/3 rds the weight of the previous one.

So overal a better option than sending off out of warranty machine and paying MS to bodge another repair. At least I have another 3 Years protection from RROD in the form of free repair.

Only downside it did not come with the arcade games like i thought they used too, nothing in the box, no DLC card or on the 256MB memory unit.

Never mind at least I have a working Unit.

Think Im going to do the same as you and get a new Arcade and swap HDD over.

Good idea, I got mine from PC world, so I could check what the Generation of mother board and power rating it was, so I could get the latest version in a hope that it would prove more stable, only time will tell.

Microsoft fix all RROD xboxes out of warranty though don't they.

My original one is dead I have not sent it off yet but have registered with their website.

Popped out on Monday and bought a 360 Elite anyway, as I cba waiting for the xbox to be sent off and come back.

I haven't transferred any game content and tbh dont want to, but it was a PoP to get my gamer tag and stats on the new unit - my router was already set up to allow connectivity to XBL so as soon as the new xbox found the network I just had to type in my gamer tag, email address and password and it connected to XBL and downloaded my profile.

One problem with this is that all downloaded content such as add ons for forza, will only work when connected to xbox live. If the connection is lost for whatever reason it will stop the games from running.

Flog your faulty one on ebay - theres a market for them. Last time i looked they made £35. Also, your PSU will be worth money too, so sell it separately. Also, if you havent open up your new handset, stick it on ebay and use your old one(s)

To be honest I had noticed when my original xbox 360 came back from repair, I could only access my DLC content when on xbox live, but thanks for the tip I have done the license transfer to my new Xbox now, cheers.

The reason that they don't come with a 256mb memory unit, is that they now have the same or 512mb on board memory.

Don't forget to put your RROD unit on eBay. There is a market for them, believe it or not, and I just sold my old Gen A 360 with RROD before Xmas for 45quid!

Got my replacement Arcade for 99quid at the end of the summer, so that chopped the price in half!
