Updating Forza 3 offline

Sorry to add yet another Forza thread but I cant get my Xbox 360 online (long story) and was wondering if theres any other wayI can get hold of the updates?

Do you not have wireless? You can bridge the wireless connection from your laptop to the Xbox and get online that way. It's not an elegant solution, but it'll do the trick. Otherwise, I'm not aware of a way of offline updating, I'm afraid.

Yea im trying with the wireless. Ive tried Microsoft Connect where you copy your PC's internet settings onto a usb stick and install them on the xbox but thats not worked and ive put my web settings on the PC to share but still nothing

Look up Internet Connection Sharing for the xbox 360 on Google and follow word for word one of the many well written guides.
Read through it first so you understand what you are doing and then do it stage by stage.
What you will have is a wireless laptop receiving the internet, then you will "share" the internet through your laptop's network connection (lan cable from laptop to xbox) to your xbox.
What you were talking about before was just sharing settings between computers.

Or the simple way might be to just move your xbox next to your router and do the updates.

Ok, having a read through it now, kind of makes sense lol.

Just tried connecting using a cable from my PC into the xbox 360 but it says "cant connect to your network hardware using a static IP address"

Im using windows Vista if that makes any difference.

What router are you using and whos network is it? ie is it yours, or parents or works etc and to you have control of it?

Im using an Orange Livebox which is downstairs, and I have control of it though my PC. My mums laptop also has access to the network with no problems.

So have you set up the sharing of the internet through your laptop?
Do that before you try plugging in the cable between your laptop and xbox. It wont just work, you do need to set things up first.

Not sure if it makes any difference but I use the web via a desktop PC and ive put in every option to share the connection

To be fair it sounds like you need to explain your setup at home for a detailed answer.
That way people can give you an answer relevant to you, as it seems the straight forward isnt working.

Ok Downstairs by the front door is the phone which is directly connected to the Orange Livebox and then my PC which is up stairs andgets the internet via a wireless signal to an adaptor on the end of a USB cable.

ok make sure you havent changed any network setting on your xbox and try this guide, it seems to be the clearest.
On your Vista machine, what you will be doing is just basically sharing your Wireless connection by default through your Ethernet connection (which will be connected to your xbox.

On the screen it says that my router may not be automatically assigning an IP address.

It says to go to my router settings and and make sure that DHCP is enabled (which it is) and that it has a large enough adress for all devices on the network.

It also says to make sure my MAC filtering allows my consoles MAC address or to disable it, how do I do this?

You will need to check if your mum or dad has put any extra security on it like MAC filtering.

what is weird is that looking in my router settings I seem to have 4 devices connected to our network when it should be 2! And also the fact that they are un-named.

Cold be an iPod or PSP connected wirelessly.
Also, make sure your Firewall on your PC is disabled until you check everything is working.
As a last resort you could manually set your IP address to something in the range of your router.
To be fair networking problems normally require a process of elimination, hence why some people work in IT and some dont.
You dont have a friend who knows what they are doing, who can pop round?
