PS3 Placement Dilemma

Currently it's downstairs on a 32" widescreen CRT but upstairs I have a 19" widescreen HD LCD tv, is it worth me putting it in my bedroom to play it or will the size decrease negate any picture improvements

Put it on the 19 incher and just sit closer to it man. I sit about an inch away from my 26 inch 1080p screen and can see every blade of grass. Well, you get the idea.

Yep. I didn't realise my PS3 didn't come with a HDMI cable when I bought it... Was straight off to the shop to get one, because it's just ridiculous quality otherwise!

Put it on the HD TV, seriously. I have played a PS3 on an old school TV and the quality is appalling to the point that you cannot read text on the screen (irregardless of how close to the screen you are).

Well bugger me with a rusty pitchfork it's a whole new world. It's as if I've just turned it from 20% quality to 100% it's displaying in 1080i ( is this the best? as my tv does 1080p) it's almost worth me replaying all of my games in full HD!!!

Without question HD is an improvement whatever the screen size!

Each game should automatically play at the best resolution it/your TV can, mine does that at least. I think MW2 only gos up to 1080i, it might say on the back of the case.

Easiest way - when you turn the console on keeping holding the on button down for 5 seconds or so and it will beep again. The display settings will come up and it should have 1080p ticked. You also need to do this if you go back from 1080p to something worse because otherwise you will just get an error on the tv saying it can't display it.

Correct. Most games are only 1080i.

The alternative location for said console would be the bin, whilst quickly replacing this with an xBox 360, which would look fantastic in your lounge, bedroom, games room, loft conversion, conservatory, secret bunker, panic room, bomb shelter..

Correct. Most games are only 1080i.

No games are natively 1080i, most are 720p or lower. I would expect a 19" TV to have a resolution lower than 1080x1920, so for games at least, I would have thought 720p would be the best resolution to choose. But TV's and people are not one of a kind so try them all out and stick to the one you think is best.

As Norby said, you'll probably find that most games automatically choose 720p even though your PS3's XMB is using 1080i.

PS3's more of a media player. Certainly know games machine. When I'm buying games I always choose the 360 version. Uncharted 2 I have it and not played it..lol

I remember playing my PS3 on a bog standard 15-inch LCD TV (no HDMI connection, not HD ready) when I first got it.

Before long upgraded to 19-inch Samsung HD monitor, it was amazing to see the difference!

Might be worth getting some decent speakers for smaller TV, depending on how much you actually use it! It'll vastly improve the "tinny" sound you get normally.
