Anybody played the demo / bought the game?

I must admit I had been waiting for this to be released for months and months, and when I found out the release in USA and Asia was 2 months earlier than any UK release, I signed up to a US account and downloaded the demo from the US Xbox marketplace boxedin and then bought it and had it shipped from Hong Kong.

Anyway the demo is out in the UK now on Live, and the game release is due for a week into Feb.
Anyone played and have opinions on it? Personally I had never played a single track demo as many times before in my life, not sure why, but something about the physics of the game amazed me. Now that I've had and completed the actual game, its one of my top favourites and definately worth recommending, just wish it was a little longer and didn't have stupid buggies that have no weight to them at all, they float round the corners. You can't even avoid using them, its part of the career mode.

As for the MX bikes though and the way they handle and deform the track when riding over it, its an amazing game biggrin

Btw my gamer tag is Louisa911

Cheers

Is this going to be like motorstorm or whatever it was called on the PS3? That was a pretty decent off road racing game.
Might have a look at the demo tonight.

I played the last one of this a lot, so was really looking forward to it. However, the frame rate is abysmal. It's not just that it's low; it varies, which really ruins the action. Unless the full game resolves it, I'll be skipping it.

The MX bikes are terrible, not even remotely close to reality or even close to what they should be like in an arcade game. There's no reward for picking smooth lines, the overtaking is stupid and the back end slides around like a rally car. Terrible, terrible game.

The deforming tracks are a decent idea though. If they spend some time and effort on that and the physics model, then they may get close to what this should have been.

There's no reward for picking smooth lines in reality, you either set a fast time or set a slow time. When the laps are stacking up, if you pick a wrong line you do occasionally get thrown from the bike if you don't stick to the ruts. Personally I think its a massive improvement on the previous titles, thats just my own opinion. Agree on the physics engine though- not as bad with the bikes but the quads and buggy/trucks are awful! What do you mean by the overtaking being stupid?

In reality of MX, picking smooth lines and avoiding the parts of the track that become churned up, badly rutted and rough as a badgers backside is crucial to keeping laptimes fast and competitive. Sure, they have made an attempt to include deformation in the game, but you can still barrel into a corner flat out, turn the bike and accellerate out all without having to brake at all. In terms of the overtaking, there's no block-passing moves or anything. You just have to avoid the slower riders much like in the old lotus turbo challenge games. Not to mention that the AI riders don't seem to have anything even closely resembling a brain and take random lines that make no sense.

Like I said, it's a good idea to include how tracks will rough up and alter through a race, but if you couple that with crap AI and a silly control system (try racing from first-person perspective, it's a total guess what's going on) then you end up with a really, really poor game. Which is what this is.
