X360 - RROD options
Discussion
Afternoon all - my 360 is out of warranty and has packed up with a red ring of lights around the power button. I understand this is terminal, have had a read on the search function and uncovered lots of info - but in simple terms what are my options? Thought it might be useful to have it in one place, as it seems to be a common thing:
- Fix myself, looks very involved
- Send to MS for repair, costs c.£70 and has very short warranty
- Find someone local to London who can fix it
- Towel trick and wait for it to RROD again. Is it then unsalvageable?
- Buy a new one
Can anyone share any info? Particularly interested to hear if there are independent places in London that can fix reasonably (point 3).
Much obliged

Take it into Game and tell them you bought it there but don't have the receipt. They will quite often swap it then and there for a new one and send the old one off to microsoft. Be prepared for them to reject if your serial number is too old, but I don't think they always check this.
When you say it's out of warranty, is that the 12 month warranty or the 3 year RROD warranty?
I tried doing one of the ebay repairs myself, it lasted OK for another couple of months, then went again. So I bought an elite, I just chalked it up as one of those things you have to put up with as a 360 owner. Wouldn't have happened in the past and I'm damn sure my megadrive will still work if I plug that in, but as things get more and more techy it seems like it's going to become increasingly common.
