Bought it for PC and played it last night after a light drinking session. Being the Alien has been the most fun so far, followed by the Predator (who in my opinion is a bit weak, especially with how useless the cloak is) and lastly, the Marine.

The problem I have with the marine is probably the fact that everywhere is dark and I understand this is for horror purposes but compared to the likes of Fear, the effect is already repetitive.

With the Alien, I enjoy taking out the lights, drawing each little soldier away from the group and dropping down followed by biting their head off/impaling them/slicing their throats. I would have preferred to have started out as a face hugger though (as per AVP2) as you feel all the better for picking your victim (even if it was pre-set). I'm getting the hang of the transitions, I've switched it to Auto and it feels a bit better, although selecting which vent to jump into gets tedious.

As a PC gamer, the game does feel as though it has been geared more towards the console, what with the repeated "HOLD E TO INTERACT" subtitles. The controls are a little awkward, something I'll tweak myself later though.

The Predator is my favourite character in AVP2 as you can waltz around taking people out with great ease at first, having started with all your weapons. The fact that you start with just the shoulder mounted cannon and dual blades in this latest instalment annoys me somewhat, I used to enjoy toying with my "prey" using the net gun etc. Ah well, minor complaint. The jump mechanic takes a little getting used to, after a while you can guess where you'd be able to jump to prior to getting the marker up. One thing that has annoyed me is the lack of vision modes, thermal vision only (so far, haven't played the Predator campaign as much as the Alien one) seems pointless, similar to the lack of weapons as mentioned earlier.

I haven't tried online yet, I tend to buy games for their single player experience, with multiplayer being an added bonus.

Graphically, the game is nice, not up their with Crysis or even Bioshock 2 but nicely polished. The trophy kills are entertaining, although I wish you could cancel them once started as I've been caught out a few times stroking a spinal column when go-ho marine decides to shoot the crap out of me. I do wish the game wasn't so eager to point out things, but again I believe this to be a more console oriented addition. Also the game could be a bit more open, perhaps have multiple ways of getting the job done - stealth or gun-ho for example. As a Predator I should be able to blow a hole through a wall and do task X or sneak up behind security guards, rip off their heads and open a door using those, but perhaps I've been spoilt by certain games.

Gameplay wise, the Predator needs more energy to make the shoulder cannon viable, especially seeing as it's major shortfall is that you seemingly become a giant bullseye for anyone you aim at. The Alien attacks should perhaps be a bit more powerful, especially seeing as their range is limited, although I understand why their strength has been toned down. Still, tearing a marine limb from limb should be a more regular occurrence. The Marine missions are exciting, although I've mentioned its pitfalls earlier. The best part, at least in my opinion, is the motion sensor which can genuinely make you fear what might be happening. Often I throw a flare out the moment I hear the dreaded beep in anticipation of getting my arms ripped off. The sound of the pulse rifle is spot on too.

I would recommend the game to most people as it offers a varied mixture of gameplay elements, although it is somewhat a jack of all trades yet a master of none. You have elements of stealth and action neither of which are perfect. The AI isn't the best, liking to stand in open spaces and shout "I am reloading!" occasionally. An element of fear to the Marines would have been a nice addition, especially when you've just had a facehugger attach himself to a civilian.

A solid 7.5/10 although I prefer AVP2.

Im pretty unimpressed with it. So far ive finished the alien and predator campaigns, both are far too short and pretty easy. Ill probably take back to game within the 10 day limit.

The controls arent great either, the alien especially, if auto transition is on, then it constantly runs up walls etc when you dont want it too or with transition on you have to press the button at every bump. I find it pretty disorientating too.

The predators cloak is pointless, they can all see you anyway, although his weapons can be quite fun.

Not played much of the marine. Although one thing i instantly noticed was lack of zoom/iron sight for better aiming.

4 or 5 out of 10 id say

I'm very disappointed too....though that might change when the "Dedicated Servers" come out for online.

It's fun....but feels rushed.

Alien campaign...WTF...finished in under 3 hours. Hardly anytime to enjoy the damn thing.

SP is not a patch on AvP 2 story wise. Graphics are lovely....but content is lacking.

Multiplayer is a real issue though. Sooo many problems. Poorly thought out;

E.g.: When host player leaves...the whole game disconnects.

There are still connection issues.

Why no classes...like in AvP2. Predalien was awesome smile

Overall, I'm disappointed wwith the release version. It doesn't feel like a finished article and feels like it was rushed out. It's very annoying, as I really wanted this game to be good. The campaigns are fun, but far to short. Some of the gameeplay aspects aren't great either.....like why do you have to press space bar to jump through vents as an Alien?

Levels could have been thought out a bit more. AI seems stupid too......they don't respond to a marines headless corpse, acting like nothing is there.

They can turn it around if Multiplayer is good....but based on what I've seen so far, I don't expect the Dedicated Servers to make much of an improvement.....when they decide to release them.

Ok,

Managed to notch a few more Multiplayer games under my belt.

My opinion is improving....quite a bit.

Still need the dedicated servers....but some of the game types are pretty good.

'Infestation' is a particular fav of mine......especially when down tto last few marines biggrin

Once more people get involved I can see this becoming quite addictive. But I do hope they hurry up with those servers....as it is still annoying that the whole game disconnects when the host leaves.

Also, when you fail to connect to a game, I wish the menu would just take you back to the server list...as opposed to having to set all the search parameters again. It means you have to go through 3 or 4 different menu's just to get back to the games list. Quite annoying.

General opinion is improving though.

I knew you would change your mind wink

Been online tonight and all the people online are suprisingly friendly actually, all good teamwork and having a laugh etc etc, even had invites to help out with the achievment fo playing with 6 friends in a ranked match.

controls are a bit 'chunky' (Press A to go through vent etc etc) But i think it's very good and its kept the gameplay of AvP and AvP2!
