I linked my XBOX360 up to my TV by HDMI this weekend after getting a HDMI lead with my SKY+HD box.

However, could I figure out how to get the audo through my sorroundsound, could I bks.

I usually use the Component leads. This is nice and easy, I plug part of them into the TV and the audio part into the DVD/Sorround sound.

Obviously the HDMI just plugs from the xbox into the TV. I tried using some phonos and the scart from every output on the TV into the surroundsound box but nothing worked at all.

Anybody got any ideas?

Use an optical cable from the xbox to the amp, hdmi to tv (if not through the amp first, to solve the problem)

Depends on type of amp.
I have three HDMI sources (XBOX, Blu-ray and Sky) going to amp and one hdmi lead from amp (monitor connection) to tv.
Amp then handles the audio, and the display is handled by tv.

I recently got an Elite and had this problem. I was going to keep my old component cable and run the Toslink through that but it just doesn't fit with the component cable plugged in.

There is an adaptor you can buy called the Xbox Audio Adaptor, it comes in a pack with a Xbox HDMI cable. Retails at £19.99 but I bought one second hand from Gamestation for £5.

I'm pretty sure thats what you need. The only other way I could have done it was to connect the Toslink from the amp to the television, but it could encode Dolby 5.1 or DTS to the amp and could only do Stereo/Pro Logic, which wasn't good enough.

If anyone doesn't know a Toslink is an optical cable.

I use an hdmi cable from my Elite into tv and I have taken the plastic covering off the hd component leads, which means it fits in the xbox and allows me to use the optical output straight into my amp, simples and no cost involved smile

I was going to do that, but for the sake of a fiver I can't really complain about getting the proper bit of kit, and a spare HDMI cable.
