Hellooooooooo,

How do I go about backing up my PS3? I plugged my USB hard drive into it and it didn't like it and wouldn't let me transfer anything.

Thank you

I take it you went to your music/photos/game saves and pressed triangle>copy?

That's how I do mine.

yes I want to copy my game saves in case anything happends to the HD, it recognsies a memory stick but it's too small to fit the data on, I plugged my 500gb external HD into it and it doesn't recognise it, could it be the format of the existing data on the external HD?

hmm..

Did you make a folder/directory on the stick first?

Make folders called

PS3

Then inside that make one called

GAMESAVES

That should do it. Works for me.
Not sure on the external hard drive, But I think I've read somewhere that it needs to be fat32?

There is an option under Settings>Backup Utility that will create a full back up of your HDD to your USB drive. You need to make sure the USB drive is in a format that the PS3 is happy talking to first though - it should be FAT32.

I did this before upgrading my PS3. You backup to a usb drive, slide out the old HDD and slide in a bigger one which it then formats and finds your backup, and restores from.

If it's individual game saves you're wanting to save, then as mentioned above just copy them one by one onto the USB Hdd once you get that working and recognised.

If only the Xbox were that easy.
