It's out today, but I'd like to hear from anyone who might have tried it before buying it myself. I didn't end up buying Empire because of the feedback from others but I think this period could be the best since Rome to play.
So first impressions anyone?

I would love to tell you, but, for reasons known only to themselves, Steam seemingly insisted that this game couldn't be pre-loaded, so I started the download this morning, and it's only done about 10% of the 20+GB thus far! 
(Italian broadband - it's as fast and as reliable their public sector workers....)

I am another one waiting a few weeks before I buy after the turd that was ETW proved to be bug ridden and unplayable for me for a few weeks till the 2nd patch was released
Looking at players who have bought it though it seems to be a far more polished game this time around

Seems you get different additional units depending if you buy Imperial Edition from a shop or online, and standard version from a shop or online.
"Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars" pack - with boxed or download Imperial Edition.
"Elite Regiment" pack - boxed Standard and Imperial versions only.

NTW uses the same engine as ETW however it has been tweeked to run better.I run ETW in 1920x1200 with everything on max. Average 60fps.
Run an Intel 6600 Quad core, Geforce 260GTX Overclocked and 4gb of ram.
OK, have just played for a couple of hours.
It looks prettier but runs smoother than ETW. it is also more 'slow burning', with each turn being 2 months. I can't play it really in depth right now, but thus far, it's pretty good.
I am running it on my laptop (Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT, 2.8ghz Intel C2D, 4GB memory) with graphic options on normal. There is no slight stutter on the main campaign map like on ETW.
ETA - Played it for about 5 hours today on my humble laptop, and it's great! No bugs, CTD's etc. The battles are also great fun, and look even better than ETW (Just beat Napoleon's main army in a 40 minute battle for Caen!)
If it works fine on my year old laptop, it should be great on a fairly modern standard desktop..

I have had a couple of freezes when boarding, whish is a bit frustrating after a 30 min naval battle... audio keeps playing and you can move the camera around but the ships aint going nowhere.
But apart from that it looks like a big improvment. A little limited in scope compaired to other TW games but not bad.

Personally, I like it more than ETW, which was always full of bugs and maybe just a little too 'bloated'(I haven't played any sea battles yet, but plenty of land battles)
Initially, I thought, playing as Britain, that it would be a walkover. For the few hours it was, I even took Paris. However, they rebelled and ejected me, so I built up a great army, only to come up against Napoleon himself! What ensued was one of the most exhilarating and involving hours worth of game play I have thus far had, with tactics making a real difference! I lost, but his was a 'Pyrrhic' victory - so mauled was his army that he couldn't follow his victory up, and the remnants of my army made it to port and across the Channel., and I have Nelson’s fleet still blockading his ports and ferrying my casualties back and forth to be replenished…My elite infantrymen and riflemen are almost ready too…
So, I thought it would be a European walkover, but ended up pulling back, licking my wounds, and working out my next moves as France steamrolls across Europe. Fantastic!
The map is smaller, but the game play is more involving, plus each turn is two months, not a year.
Not sure I did the right thing in liberating Brussels though, should have looted it and left it broke, knowing what they’d be up to a couple of hundred years later..

Couldn't wait for online purchase or download so popped out and got bought it.
Haven't had much time but I cranked all the details up to Ultra, fog on, effects on, AA, AF maxxed out and it looks great, runs smoothly. It would appear I need to go through the basics on the tutorial (again?, I know how the game works thanks) to unlock parts.
I hate games that need bits unlocked. But I guess there will be a tweak to remove them as the original Rome had the tweak to open up previously unplayable factions.
But I can see this one being a keeper like Rome for a long time.

Amazon were kind enough to deliver my copy for £17 on Thursday morning so had a good go at it so far.

Starting with England on this even on 'medium' setting it is still reasonably hard, and on my 4 year old Macbook Pro with literally the minimum requirements on an average setting the graphics are reasonably smooth even on the highest native setting.
The gameplay is not too different to ETW apart from attrition in the field on armies and new generals and admirals can be bought.
As always you need to play to your factions skills, in the case of England, the navy. Using my usual tactic of an strong economic base before major expansion, this works well and you often get to a 'tipping point' where a large trade income along with a strong navy to sweep up anyone threatening it gives you the income to wage war on a couple of fronts later on.
Each turn is quite short, and managed to get the victory for England in 50 turns which took the timeline from 1806 to the start of 1809 and you get up until 1812 to complete the target.
Going back now to try as another faction... Good stuff, great for £17!

Hows the history side of things?
There were a few things in ETW that annoyed me (like how the french kept the same colours after the revelution).
Can the french march in columns? Do they do so? Also do they shout 'Vive la Emperor' whilst marching into rifle fire?
All I want is 1 English Rifleman officer with a cavalry sword and rifle and I would be happy lol.
