What's going on here then? (360 woes)
Discussion
For the first time in 4 years my xbox has thrown a hissy-fit and I don't know why
Inspired by the Test Drive thread I loaded my copy to give the game another shot at winning my affections; 10 minutes in and all of a sudden the picture onscreen goes "tinted" and red and green lines appear all over the screen. I flipped to freeview to see if the TV was playing up, but the image was fine. So I restarted the console but now don't even get as far as the dashboard; the TV just displays it's "mode not supported" message whilst the 'box whirrs away to itself.
The TV (a 4 year old LCD) is otherwise working fine (freeview/DVD etc) but it will not recognise my xbox via the component input (which is how it is usually connected) or via the scart adapter/other inputs. Unfortunately I don't have a second TV right now, otherwise I would do the test to determine if it was TV or console that was at fault.
So, WTF?
I'm thinking the console's graphic processor is fubar'd and hence isn't sending a signal to the TV?!
TIA

Could be the cables themselves, i've heard a few stories about the cables messing up.
Does your TV support HDMI? If so try that, cables are cheap and worth a try!
Did the xbox freeze when the image went odd? As thats what my xbox did before getting RROD but it froze when the screen went fubar.
Hope it mysteriously sorts itself out

Cheers SS; I got my 360 when it first came out so unfortunately it doesn't have the HDMI option; screen didn't freeze, just carried on as normal although it had the bad picture.
On one of the dozen or so restarts I did, it gave me the RROD (
and it's never done that before); I switched off, unplugged, plugged back in and started up again and it didn't happened again, although it still won't give me a picture on screen
Luckily (I suppose) I'm not a hardcore gamer, so it's not the end of the world, but it's never let me down before so I hope I can get this fixed somehow...

It's dying/dead I'm afraid.Overheating & lead free solder joints cracking, have turned you into another victim. There are things you can try to fix it yourself, but you will need to open the console up and mess about a bit.My advice, if you still want one, would be to dump it on ebay as a 360 with a RROD and then grab yourself an arcade machine for £99 or an Elite package for £150.

Yep, sad to say but if it rrod once, it is on it's way out for sure, exactly what mine did last year, and it was a launch console too.Edited by Digby on Sunday 28th February 09:50
Mine did this whilst under the original warranty (luckily I was off to Le Mans for the week - not much downtime)
Can you still play games, just without the visuals etc? or is it frozen completely?
On mine, you could play the game, it just didn't have any video, made for an interesting session of GTA:4 with my mates

Daft as it sounds you might want to try stripping it down and baking it in the oven.
It melts the solder down and fixes the breaks; so when it cools down it might work again. My mate has fixed a few xbox's like this, and I fixed a graphics card from my PC by doing the same.
Google it if you don't believe me (I wouldn't blame you!)
