Hi Chaps,

I have just got into this MW2 online stuff... I'm totally useless at it mind, though getting better s-l-o-w-l-y... I am level 16 now! WOOHOO! I actually came second in a match the other day (as opposed to 2nd from bottom as is usual)...

BUT...

Last night my xbox E74ed on me... damn and blast... I bought it 2 years ago so it should be covered, but I am moving house this weekend, so can't really send it off until after then... So probably weeks and weeks before I get turned into a walking seive again by a bunch of 14 year old Americans.

The question is, after a bit of searching for info on this E74 error, it looks like a very high percentage of players that have the same problem were playing MW2...

Hmm got me to thinking, is it possible that MW2 puts such a strain on the innards of an xbox that it heats up and dies, or is it just coincidence bolstered by the popularity of MW2?

I don't use the xbox that much due to lack of time and not being able to afford a divorce... but I have recently done a couple of 1-2hour sessions. Oh for info, it's an Elite console, apparently with the new improved PSU - can't remember what it's called 'falcon' or something, so the problem wasn't entirely fixed with that upgrade.

anybody else had the same when doing lots of MW2?

Yup, the GPU and CPU varies it's power consumption depending on how idle it is. So playing a game = more power usage and heat, which usually breaks the dodgy 360 solder joins.

Seeing as MW2 is the most played game on the XBox at the moment, and a large proportion of players are whiny American teenagers who bleat on about any tiny problem on forums, then there's a good chance that there'll be a large number of posts about 'MW2 ruined my XBox, I hate Microsoft, etc., etc.' skewing the statistics.

I think my first XBox broke playing GTA IV, which is probably more taxing on CPU/GPU usage than MW2 - not had any problems with the second XBox, other than the CD Drive going a bit wonky (fixed for free). Surely playing for short periods of time is just as bad, as it's the heat cycle on starting up/shutting down that will provide the biggest temperature change, rather than fluctuations while playing?
