counter-strike 1.6...
Discussion
Played a lot.Did the admin thing from a laptop, too.Blowing my own trumpet if I may, I got several 50+ kills for zero deaths, took out entire teams with just me left on numerous occasions (M4 weapon of choice - could snipe with that thing!), got accused of hacking a lot due to use of sound, distraction tactics and knowing all the maps, had custom map nights, met some great mates due to the game and basically had the time of my life! We also had 4 day LAN meetings in village halls and peoples houses.Ahhh the good old days.
Then the hacking really took off.The bans came thick and fast.Innocent good players started to get caught up in it.Shared connections were looked apon as cheating by us and that annoyed lots of people. Then, out of the blue, everyone started changing 'rates' and cries of "where is the reg?!!" accompanied every single players miss. The 'binds' also took hold and camping AWP owners finally emerged and began bunny hopping their way around Italy for a change and could whip out and reloaded the sniper just like a hand gun.The final nail in the coffin for us, was CS Source. If it aint broke..

Without a doubt the game I wasted most my life on. I think 50% of all my gaming time has been on 1.6.
Never hacked and lived for the 'bine and the AK. Obviously everyone used the deagle but there was something quite satisfying about using duelies!
Never got caught up in the AWP and noon cannon era. Only ever sniped with the scout! So very rewarding.
Ran a sever for a year. Ranked in the top 500 in the world. Used to be 24/7 cs_assault (the best map ever!) I admit to using the wallhack when I was admining (as spectator, even though that carried a possible VAC's ban) to make it easier to catch hackers. But never while playing. I love that game so much I played on monday night!

Using the awp well was a skill that was on a higher plain to all the noob cannon s
t.
It took a special player to go down tunnels in d2 with an awp out and wipe out three people no scoping.
yea I do agree an awp used well was always a sight to see! But tower campers on assault with there AWPs is not. Noob cannons pissed me off no end. There is something delightful about the scout with it's low power pea shooter manner!

The simplicity of the game led to a higher level of skill and tactics than is possible in any modern-day FPS in my opinion, I think the best CS players would eat the best MW2 players for breakfast.
Of course. The level of play on the games was incredible. To get to the level some people were at would take years for your average xbox fragger.
Some of the snap shots I did with the awp would be un-fathomable to the modern gamer.
