Last Gen Gaming

With My XBOX 360 currently sat as a Paper weight (To all PS3 Fanboys - GT5) I thought I would fire up the XBOX i brought a few months ago. Its
got quite a few games with it including Rally Sport Challenge 2. How great is this game?

Makes you think,how so many of the 360/PS3 games are design just to look great but gameplay is not that good.

Does anybody else still play / fire up older consoles? I have a N64 upstairs that I am thinking of getting out the box.

I still fire up some older PC games (Rome Total War, Commandos spring to mind) as I do like that they concentrated on gameplay instead of adding in pointless layers of complexity and going OTT on the graphics.

You do have to be careful though, some older games are just rubbish and those memories of you thinking they were great were just because they were the best available to you at the time...

XBOX for Halo2 because 3 is poor,Men of Valour, Black Hawk Down, Mecredes World Racing.
N-64 for the obvious reasons.

I ocassionally fire up the Dreamcast. Love playing Shenmue 1 & 2, also quite enjoy blasing on both Sonic adventures.


Shenmue still has to be one of the greatest role playing games I have ever played. They really need to make a 3rd for which ever console. It has to be done!

original ps1 for a bit or gran turismo 1, or resident evils 1-3, dino crisis and metal gear solid 1. good times.....

I still reckon I'm untouchable on Diddy Kong Racing for the N64. I forget the year but F1 199something was fking wicked on the N64 also

Don't even get me started on the 1st Rainbow 6, I considered installing Windows 98 to get that badboy to run properly

I play a few last gen games on the current generation of consoles - mostly Fable (XBOX). Also still play Legend of Zelda, Secret of Mana, Smash TV, 1942, Bubble Bobble, Unreal Tournament.

I keep an old CRT telly purely for the n64 (Goldeneye!). And I've got my 1st gen xbox set up with a 26" lcd for Ghost Recon and GTAVC.

Regularly play Counter Strike on the xbox. Still can't find an FPS that makes me as happy. Unfortunately this will end on the 15th April as Microsoft are pulling all on-line support for original xbox games.

I also occasionally fire up Black on the xbox, Okami & Ico on the PS2 & Kurushi Final on the PS1.

I often fire up the ps1 to have a hung-over blast though Metal Gear Solid or Driver.

Powerdrift on the Dreamcast. The inlaws have a PS2 and I play the FIL at GT3 regularly. Still use my PSP loads. The Wii..... used for about a month, now looking to sell it.

Completely agree with what you said about shenmue. I mean the game was massive even back then. Image how much more involving they could make it now with the latest console technology.

No longer own any older consoles, sadly.

I really miss those - remember picking up a brand new ps1 bundle with Resident Evil 2 in the late 90's.

Has a go on xbox about a year ago - GTA: San Andreas was so much fun too...

Still run every single console I have owned since the age of 8. Was on the Master System only last week, and spent last night on the Game Boy Light.

I still play modern things - Forza 3 and MW2 have been recent highlights for example - but don't write older games off as quickly as most do. It's not about the "retro" fashion element either. I really do enjoy playing a lot of older games.

Still have, SNES, N64, Dreamcast in the cupboard, PS2 in the living room.

Currently having a bit of a retrofest via the Wii Virtual Console, with several SNES, Master System and NeoGeo games on there. Newest addition was SNES Mario Kart which is much harder than I remember!

Indeed! Once you've unlocked 150cc Rainbow cup it's properly brutal. You have to drive by muscle memory, pretty much. And I remember battle mode all-nighters aged about 13-14. My speciality was very long range curved green shells!

And WipeOut 2097 and Wip3out.

2097 may well be the best racing game ever.

I've still got my Master System, complete with a st ton of games that I collected over the years when I was a kiddo. One game that I always played was Shooting gallery complete with a Light gun. I now really want to dig out the system and have a bash on shooting gallery, but my bloody dog chewed through the Light gun's cable years ago and it's been rather difficult to come by at getting another.
