Any Flight Simmers?

I know, really strange question from a girlie, but I was wondering if we have any flight simmers on here, and if any are going to the flight sim convention at Weston Super Mere Helicopter Museum next weekend? (15th & 16th May)
Other half will be there with his fancy computer setup, I may even have a flight or two myself, and I am there with something for the ladies! (or men wanting to grab a few brownie points!)
But from what the organiser is saying, there is pretty much everything that a simmer could want there, and best bit is that it's fundraising for the air ambulance, so lots of things in the auction, and there is something about an online display fight on the Saturday night (the theme of the weekend is the Battle of Britain)
If anyone is going, feel free to come and say hi, like I say, I will be the one sticking out like a sore thumb, but it would be nice to perhaps meet some new people

I was a manager at a virtual airline for a while, have flown Concorde LHR to JFK, but left it there for the relief crew to bring home, also done some ATR and Airbus flights, but never quite got round to Boeings, mainly because himself has only just got some decent ones, and I haven't had time to have a go, am a member on IVAO and have even had ATC while flying

In fact, its FS2002 to be exact !
I tend to fly nice short flights in the 737 just for fun, usually EDI-GLA or EDI-NCL. Have also done a few flight around my holiday airports like ZTE, GRO.
Probably fire it up next week for a few runs into LCA ahead of my hols there !

I go simming from time to time. had the virtual ATC set for other players to do the ATC. also hooked up googlemaps to relay satellite images onto my terrain rather than use the low res FSX ones.
I actually done my solo flight in FSX before I did the real one, which helped a lot!
still got lost on approaching the unfamiliar airport and had to ask for directions then bounced about 5 times on landing...

For FSX i found a nice programme called British Airways flight manager which basically alows you to fly every BA route and gives you 4 BA planes to do it in, you can also choose your weather etc. quite a neat little programme but it gives you no help woth anything so you are on your own with Radio and avionics etc. Good fun though. It is only 250 mb and can be retrieved from the internet... ARgghh (f you see where i mean.)

Can you do it with FS2004?
but the app is called TILEPROXY
you don't have to use google for it either yuo can use yahoo or other satmap services if you prefer.
things to note: your hard disk will become fragmented big time because it downloads different resolution images around your plane and since the plane is moving, it will be caching a lot of tiles.
the bandwidth usage will be pretty high too.
You can however set it to not jsut cache but keep the files (especially useful for routes you fly frequently)
I recommend you install it on a separate hard drive to the one your operating system is setup on
I used to "play" FS2004 a lot, really got into it and had a couple of great add on planes - ATR and the C-130.
Then went to FSX and found the performance a bit crap, I had a 6 month old £1k PC but it struggled. Then going back to FS2004 felt like a leap backwards so I gave up in the end.
How is FSX now, are there enough community tweaks that have helped it perform better or has technology caught up with it?

FSX is getting better now that more people are doing the add ons for it, we have X on my computer, it's not really spec'd up for X, but it does ok.
Meanwhile, he is sticking with 2004 on his computer (which was actually built for FS) as he seems happier with it, there were some issues with X that he didn't like and all the scenery/add ons etc that he had spent a fortune on were for 2004.

I have FSX Acceleration + REX plus payware aircraft such as IRIS Pro Vulcan, Aerosoft Catalina, JustFlight Constellation, RealAir Spitfire, Alphasim T-6 Texan and just about every good aircraft off Simviation that has a virtual cockpit and I'm only using up 46GB.
The convention was brilliant, apart from a few power issues, but then there were a heck of a lot of computers on, we gave up with the demos about lunchtime yesterday as we couldn't risk the hard drive with another power outage.
Managed to have a go on a few other systems, which resulted in the other half getting a flight yoke, extra throttle quadrant and foot pedals for his system.
Some of the set ups were amazing, we also had real helis flying in for displays, mostly the local air ambulances, there were also heli pleasure rides happening, and the police chopper did a display and then just narrowly missed a seagull on his way back to base.
Was nice to meet a lot of the people, who over the past few years have just been voices on the end of headsets , won a few items in the auction, donated a lot of items to the auction, and managed to win two of the prizes with the games on the Saturday night while waiting for the re-enactment and the fire works.
Now to try and catch up on some sleep
