I've just dug this old jem out in the hope I'll be able to use it again now I've picked up Falcon 4.0: Allied Force for the princely sum of just £2.99

Question is, does anyone have any experience of using this joystick on Windows 7? Microshaft claim Vista compatibility.. but mine is an old 15pin serial version so not even sure you can get hold of a USB convertor that will work since the joystick itself may use too many pins?

That isn't serial, it is a standard joystick connector. You can either get a USB adapter, or if you want to make sure it works perfectly, get yourself any decent soundcard that has a midi/joystick port on it and install that.

Thanks. I figured it wouldn't actually be a standard protocol as such. Was planning to buzz it out and see what the pins are used for but if there is a convertor you can buy already that's great.

Sound card is not an option sadly. It's a dinky Dell Zino that I bought as a shared machine with the wife..

I don't think I have the original installation discs though so the question over Win7 compatibility stil remains..

I was given one of these a while back, but I haven't got around to getting a Gameport -> USB adaptor for it yet.
Are they any good?

As I recall pretty good, although it's been 10 years or so since I had it out to play.

It's robust, and adjustable - the throttle can be 'flipped' over to suit lefties like me

I seem to recall there was a little (analogue) noise/hysteresis when it was centred though, making re-fuelling in Falcon4.0 a little challenging!

I think at the time it was a good deal cheaper than the microsoft stick too, which probably had an influence on my decision to purchase
