Apologies if repost, couldn't see it anywhere else here.
MS has announced early details of the next Forza game. It'll include MS Kinect compatibility for head turning, arm waving fun.

The video's very clever, but I don't want to be 'driving' by holding my arms out in front of me in mid-air.. It'll only be useful if they can make it work for ancillary actions such as looking around etc, not the actual driving itself. I'm also not convinced that there won't be massive lag issues or that it'll be able to distinguish subtle actions.
Whilst it's very cool stuff - and I'm a complete gadget-freak - I'm not convinced this will be more than a passing fad that will fall by the wayside like so many other computer devices have over the years. Oh, and some of us may not have space for all this moving around!

No idea how good the tech will be, but I quite like the idea of using a wheel as I do now but being able to look around without reaching for the D-pad. In online races especially, a quick glance left or right would be really useful so a system that monitors head movement could be rather cool.Whilst it's very cool stuff - and I'm a complete gadget-freak - I'm not convinced this will be more than a passing fad that will fall by the wayside like so many other computer devices have over the years. You never know, it might be as much of a hit as the HD-DVD player add-on...
If your using your arms to steer, what are you using to accelerate and brake? Nostril movements?? It would need to be a clever effin camera to see through my coffee table to get a look at my feet.
What a horrible way to control a racing sim. I even hate controlling mario kart that way. Give me a pad everytime.

I think they've done it 'because they can' rather than 'because people want it'.

I certainly wouldn't spend any money on it.

I'm another one who'd have this in a heart beat if it works with the wheel rather than instead of the wheel. Would be interesting if it works with the multi screen setup in Forza, that way you get to look even further behind you as you turn your head.
How annoying would it be if you moved you head when looking at lap times only to have the whole screen shift to a view of your C-Pillar...I've got quite a big telly but I sit far enough away from it to make turning my head whilst still keeping an eye on the screen an infintessimal movement. How's natal... sorry, Kinetic going to notice that (accurately)?

I don't understand if the camera turns with your head if your looking 90 degrees left how will you see the screen?
I can't imagine it will be a 1:1 ratio. I should imagine the movement of your head is magnified on screen. Hopefully if you sneeze, or turn your head to look at the speedo, the image you see will return to normal once you've finished looking at it.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
