HI
I have not turned on the Xbox in a month or so, got a friend coming round tonight who hasnt seen Forza 3 so I thought I'd give him a taste of the game and the online racing, however turning on the Xbox and trying to log on results in unable to connect, I tried the 'test' where it was green for network connection, internet connection but couldn't connect to Xbox live.
I tried rebooting the modem and Xbox, but same result, the modem is connecting to the internet as im using it right now to connect to pistonheads.
SO
I retried and now it advises my router or ISP may be blocking access to Xbox live?
It asks me to goto my router configuration web page and make sure port 3074 is open on my firewal.
It then advises it may be blocked outside of my home connection?
Firstly, where is my router configuration on my pc?
Secondly, Is this a normal thing that goes wrong? had Xbox live since it came out never had this issue?
Thirdly, why would my settings suddenly change??!!

To be honest, point number 1 is the most important so i can connect up.

Your urgent help is apreciated

Your router will be a standalone box that is plugged into your phone line/cable box. You need to access it from your PC to change any settings. To find its IP address, perform the following on a Windows PC.

1. Click start, then run.
2. Type in CMD and press enter.
3. In the command prompt, type IPCONFIG
4. Look for the entry called 'Default Gateway'
5. Type this number into your internet browser to access the router.

The next steps depend on your ISP, router brand, and connection. (ADSL via telephone line, or cable connection with Virgin) Also confirm how your Xbox is connected to your internet connection. Ethernet/modem/Wifi.

Post those details back here and I'm sure others can help you out. (I am off out now)

Type that number into your web browser

It'll then ask for a username/password. Depending on the router's model the defaults are different. Check here to find out;

http://www.routerpasswords.com/

Once you're in, again it depends on the model as to what you'll need to do. Hint: type 'port forwarding router model' into google.

Personally I have a Netgear Router and haven't got port forwarding set up at all, xbox live works fine.

fk me, seriously, I have just spent the last hour reading crap from the internet about port fowarding and all that bks, how hard can people make it! I mean im a numpty on PC, i fig thats ok as I dont get paid for working in IT, I also assume, wrongly it seems, that when I buy a modem/router thing i should be able to just 'plug and play' with no worries, after all shouldnt these things work for idiots, its why I spent so much on the fking thing!
I sure as st do not expect to spend a fking hour cocking about in a hot room on a saturday afternoon just to connect to Xbox fking live, and still not beable to do it.
Bunch of fking wkers (the most annoying thing is i dont even know whom i aiming this rant at, is it netgear, xbox live or plus net??!!!)

keep calm keep calm, do not throw the xbox through the window, just breath and let the sweat fall off you gently..........

satan have you used the router in the past for xbox live, if so i doubt thats the problem? If not ring up your ISP and ask them about the ports over the phone.

Sorry if it's a daft question but have you tried rebooting the router?

Just switch it off and on again, usually fixes most problems.

Ok, calmed down a bit now smile
yes, I tried rebooting the whole lot, first thing I did as it's what my IT department tells me when I winge at them, but no luck.
And yes, had the router for a year now with no issues, and this is what winds me up so much, I don't use the xbox live for about 6 weeks and then turn it on and it doesn't work!! I mean it makes no sense!
Will have to pay the premium call line tom to speak to plus net to resolve it I suppose, but I just hate it when things stop working for no good reason!
Anyway, thanks for the replies guys
