I've been in the Beta testing the last 3-4 months and if you liked the first one you will love this!
Definately keep an eye on http://day9tv.blip.tv for commentaries on tournaments, game analysis, and general SC2 fun. He does an almost daily show and everything archived.

I(m kinda wondering the same...seen lots of geek obsession with the first one, and have read previews/etc of the 2nd but can't seem to find a succinct summary of what it actually *is* - and what would be lovely is as much of a comparison as is relevant to supcon, etc.
Does sound exciting though....

It's a real time strategy game, where you play as one of 3 races, each with their own units and weapons.

Ah, so it is just a (albeit souped up) C&C/DoW game. Disappointing, when I first seen the title, I was rather hoping it was a deep space simulation 4x type game, and NOT yet another land based RTS with sprites that look no different than the myriad of similar games already out there..

They want €60 for the digital download, so I think I'll hang on till the weekend and get a copy in a bricks and mortar shop instead...
I am sure SC2 was advertised on Steam, but now it seems to have disappeared!
You're right about the digital downloads, especially on Steam - CoD MW2 is still almost €60! You can buy a boxed product for half that amount.

I REALLY REALLY loved Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War, but I feel cheated that each races campaign has been seperated into seperate games so I'm hesitant to get SC2.
Oooh, anyone from SC1 remember at the end of the Protoss campaign where you had Fenix (in an aircraft, forget the name, Scout maybe?) and had to defend a Citadel in the middle of a map surrounded by Zerg for 30 mins?...
My PC was so bad and suffered so much lag from the mass of units on screen that the fight took over 2 hours... Felt barely more than ten frantic minutes...

played for a couple hours last night, can't see much differences to the old one really just cool to have updated units graphics and slightly improved game play =] gonna try a few online skirmishes tonight (yeah that's right I've got bugger all else to do tonight. FML)
You've got to be joking... It's the same in theory but in execution... it's nuts. The speed has been ramped up to almost frantic levels and the myriad of new units mean that a lot of different offensive/defensive strategies get employed... i/e it's no longer possible to just sit and defend till the opposition give up and likewise, "Zerging" the enemy CAN be countered now if you know what your stuff.I like it...
Game name is "Siege", feel free to add for skirmishes etc.
