Why should I buy a PS3?

I posted this in the Gran Turismo 5 thread, but I didn't want to clog it up too much..
I have an Xbox 360 that I use to play Forza and Call of Duty, both online. I want to get Gran Turismo 5 now though, and I have a few options; Buy Gran Turismo 5 and a Dual Shock 3 Controller, price of about £70-80, this way I would try and play it on my flatmates PS3 but chances are he'd be playing COD all the time. The other option is to buy a PS3 bundled with GT5, now I thought the price was £285 but it's been reduced to £274.99 this comes with GT5 Collectors Edition, Dual Shock 3 Controller and a 320gb HD.
Oh, and I have nearly £600 in Amazon vouchers spare..
So, what benefits does the PS3 have over my current situation? What are the big things you guys use them for, i'd imagine I'd use it for GT5 and Blu-Rays?

If you are considering having it as well as the Xbox, then go for it, it does things the Xbox doesn't so you will find use for it. If it was either or, then it would be a different matter...
I have a Wii on which I use the Iplayer quite often, if you like the BBC programmes it is an invaluable tool.

Sometimes the PS3 wins out on texture detail due to the capacity of the Blu Ray discs though.

I bought the PS3 when it first came out, and I've still never had it happen.That's just yours, mate.
