Gran Turismo 5 Buy it or Leave it?

Now I know that most of the people on here will be getting GT5 with this being a car website and because people have waited years for this.

But I can't userstand the hype in it. I've played Gran Turismos in the past and I found them boring and slow. Has the game improved since?

Also I don't understand the point of a sim style car game. The devolpers can try there best but at the end of the day it will be a game and not life like sitting there behind a tele. If I want to get a track driving experience il do a track day not turn on my ps3. I prefer arcade type driving games where I can drive fast and genrally do things that I can't do in real life. Not drive slowly doing tests.

Multiplayer is a massive part of games these days and from what I have heard that if you are not using a steering wheel you are at a massive disadvantage so to compete online you will need to splash the cash for a wheel and mini will thrash everyone anyway

I am thinking about getting this game but I wanted to know if I'm missing anything?

Same here, black ops isn't really cutting the mustard at the moment and i need something to take over my life for the next 12 months until IW release the next COD.

I'm sure this has been done to death in previous threads, but.....

- not everyone has a car worth doing a track day in
- not everyone can afford to do track days whenever they want
- a sim gives some feeling of what it's like to drive a variety of cars on a variety of tracks
- some people get more enjoyment from realistic games than made-up ones
- you can also learn a lot from sims, e.g. track layouts, car set-ups, driving theory etc.

IMHO I don't see any point in arcade racers, what's the point of virtually driving a car around a track if it doesn't relate to real life? TBH even GT5 will probably be borderline in terms of realism for me....I'm more into iRacing at the moment

ATEOTD, it just comes down to personal preference. Some people like fantasy films, other people would rather watch a gritty drama.

Even if you drive race cars for a living you can still enjoy race games(Hamilton, Chris Meek, Earnhart.. etc).
If someone doesn't like racing games I would advise against getting a racing game. :derr:

What about a NFS HP type of experience, but with a bit more simulation bias?

You can certainly enjoy the challenge of driving on a realistic road with bumps and hazards with realistic physics, and it's certainly something you won't really be able to do in real life.




I'd buy it and if you don't like it then trade it in. It's not like it's massively expensive.
