Not reading discs is usually a bluray failure, cheap enough and easy to repair yourself.

Should the fans be relatively quiet and the rest of the console fault free then it is probably worth repairing.

Buy a new slim, GT5 kills the fat ones, I've bought a new 320gb with a free move from blockbusters for £250 IIRC the offer is still on until tomorrow.
My fat one now resides in my bedroom, the only thing with the slim is it's clearly built to a price and it's about half that ofthe fat, buttons instead of being touch sensitive, not shiny etc.
The only upsides are it's deadly quiet and it's 80w instead of 200w for a launch and 180/160w for any other fat one

If you can get it repaired for about 50-70 quid, then do it, once fixed part ex for a new slim one, if it's one of the first(60gb) you should get atleast 150 for it.

I know this all sounds dodgy but it's about the best option in a poor situation, my understanding is, once repaired a failed blue ray reader could last 3 years or could last 3 days, so might be worth looking at the options.
