what wheel stand?

As mentioned in the "which wheel" thread, Ive got a Wheelstand Pro for my G25 and I think it's great.
Its very (very!) solidly made, holds everything securely and is quick to set up. The only things Id look at if I was designing a Mk2 version would be a neater way of clamping the pedals to the base, and to find a nicer way to clamp the tilt and height adjustment sliders. The pedal fixing is a basic strip of metal that clamps the pedals to the underside of the two base tubes via a theaded bar and wingnut, the pedals generally stay in place once tightened up but they're not easy to adjust and it wouldnt take much to improve the design. The quick release mountain bike wheel type over-centre clamps on the adjusters are very functional and do the job, but they're quite sharp and easy to catch yourself on which can be quite painful. Both of those are minor gripes though and easily livable with.

Interesting, what do you prefer with a desk over the stand? The only thing I can think where a desk is better would be not having the bar between your legs, but I think I'd rather have that and gain adjustable height with well secured/positioned pedals? Whenever Ive played on a regular office type desk with my old PC wheel and pedals, the desk has been too high off the floor so you either sit low so the seat is the right height for the pedals and have the wheel too high, or sit at the right height for the wheel and then you're pushing down on the pedals at the wrong angle, making it feel like you're driving an MPV. Also if the desk isn't deep enough I found you couldn't get the pedals far enough away unless you pulled the desk away from the wall, I guess if you buy a desk for the purpose though and do some measuring beforehand it would be good, just need to ensure the pedals are securely mounted.
A you say though for people like me it's a moot point as the PS3 is under the main TV in the living room, not sure the wife would be agreeable to a permanent desk in front of the TV and compared to other temporary arrangements like ironing boards etc the stand makes so much sense as everything is mounted on the frame and can be easily set up / put away without having to clamp and unclamp everything each time you want to play.

I like how solid a desk is. The wheel stands wobble front to back too much for my liking. I am a bit ham-fisted though.
Also, the screen is much closer to you with a desk (perhaps 6" from the wheel on a desk, compared to 2-3 feet on a wheel stand - i find it really adds to the immersion.

I know you've already got your wheel stand, but i thought i would add to the very limited selection for anyone else who is interested in buying one.
Im buying a G27 at the end of the month, im probably going to buy the Apiga AP2, simracing seem to think its the best wheel stand on the market at the moment. Looking at the photo's it's not hard to see why. It looks very sturdy. The fact that you can add a proper bucket seat at a later date to it to make it full on rig really swung it for me.

I ordered mine, along with a DFGT, at the end of November. This gave me just under four weeks to get it before Xmas. However there were delays at the WSP end, and it transpired it would not ship till the Xmas period. As I was going to be away, I cancelled the order with a mind to placing a new one in the New Year.
I tried this on the 2nd Jan, only to find that Paypal/WheelStand Pro have changed their payment policies and that I could only pay for the items after verifying my bank account (rather than directly off a credit card through Paypal). This has delayed it till today.
So I've tried to re-order it today, and their website says they're not taking orders till Feb!! So I have a DFGT at home but still no stand. Mucho annoyed!!
Anyway, seeing that APIGA it looks like it'll do the job, however I'm not too sure about paying for it. I used Moneybookers (the payment agent on the APIGA website) a good few years ago, fell foul of a scamming b
d, and Moneybookers did eff all to help.
Any other suggestions?
