Mine are
>5 Call of Duty 2 (Xbox 360) - This had a great SP and was before they got all huge and mainstream. Wasn't just 5 hours of explosions like it is now
>4 Mafia 2 (PS3) - I just love this game! Not to everyone's taste but each to their own...
>3 Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3) - Genius game, great fighting, great story, and it's Batman!!!
>2 Uncharted Drake's Fortune (PS3) - Second best game of all time. F.a.c.t
>1 Uncharted Among Thieves (PS3) - Best game of all time. F.a.c.t *

- Both Uncharteds are as good as each other TBH though. Can't wait for Drake's Deception!!!

1. MGS 1 - From the PSone, still my favourite single player game ever, brilliant in every way.
2. GTA: Vice City - A good story combined with great gameplay.
3. TES: Oblivion - Probably my favourite current gen single player game.
4. Bioshock - A good shooter with some properly jumpy parts, far better than the steaming pile of s
t that is Bioshock 2.
5. Shadow of the Colossus - Amazing game, one of the best PS2 games.
Edit to change number 5.

I've always preferred Splinter Cell over MGS 2. GTA: Vice City - A good story combined with great gameplay.

Also might I add to my list as a joint 5th, James Bond Bloodstone. Epic game. Ignore all the reviews on it and try it for youself.
There aren't many games that have had me well and truly hooked, to the extent where I felt compelled to play them at every opportunity, and play them right through to the end.
5) Assassin's Creed 2 (PS3) - Enjoyed the concept of the original AC, but it was too clunky. AC2 was much better and had an involving storyline.
4) Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) - Never really enjoyed the Zelda games until this one.
3) Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (PC) - Best Star Wars game ever. Was the first time I got to play at being a Jedi!
2) Shenmue (Dreamcast) - Absolutely loved this game and couldn't put it down. Never got around to playing Shenmue 2 though. Think I may have to track down a used copy and dust off the Dreamcast.
1) God of War 3 (PS3) - My first experience of the God of War franchise. Thought the use of Greek mythology for the characters and the story behind it was so well thought out that I felt compelled to get God of War collection and play through GoW 1 & 2 (GoW2 just misses out on this list, probably sits at number 6 in my list).

I forgot about that!!
So many choices.
unreal was brilliant back on the pc.
people too quick to discount Halo too.
assassins creed 2
my curve ball is the saboteur - gta in ww2 loved it.
red dead redemption - top storyline - top charachters
add to them the original 2 knights of the old republic and oblivion, i'm sure people will list fallout on here too

Laser Squad on the Spectrum - truly epic gaming.
UFO - on the Amiga. Same concept, but taking advantage of better hardware.
Alien Trilogy on the PS.
BF2142 on the PC
First GT on the PS
Sadly nothing stands out on the Xbox for me - perhaps Bioshock or Assassin's Creed 2, but then both were too short, with little replay value.
