I've always played Gran Turismo but got my Brother-in-Law Forza 3 for Christmas and played it for the first time this weekend.

To begin with I wondered why it was so easy, but soon realised that it had auto braking enabled! It took me a while to work out where everything was, like tuning and changing the difficulty settings but I got it in the end.

In general:

- More fun. Seemed to concentrate more on the game aspect rather than the simulation aspect.

- Loved the tuning options. Converted an Alfa to RWD and added a supercharger.

- Loved the way it would automatically remove any upgrades that took the car over the class limits for a race (something GT5 needs).

- Graphics not as good as GT5, things looked flat but the frame rate was very stable.

- Physics not as good, a bit arcady.

- Tracks seemed very narrow, didn't seem to be able to pass anyone without ramming them.

In conclusion I really enjoyed it. The ability to customise the car so much and really make it personal to you is something missing from GT5, even if GT5 is more realistic.

Maybe PD / T10 should cooperate on a cross platform racer idea

Exactly, I personally prefer FM3 to GT5 as GT5 has left me cold, but you're right they cater to different markets. The tunability in FM3 is superb imo with all the engine swaps etc

I too was a huge GT fan and had GT, GT2, GT3, GT4 Prologue and GT4. All of which I enjoyed. But i had far more "FUN" in forza 1. I got an XBOX just before xmas for one reason only...Forza 3. When GT5 came out I went over to have a go and I really disliked it. The menu system is dire compaired to the old titles the cars were not that exciting and it just did not feel right. There is so much more game to be found in forza. Its not all race race race. The buying, selling, designing, tuning and modding. Now GT5 has only just come out and Forza 4 is on its way you can guarantee it will have more and GT6 will be....well going on past releases YEARS away. I'll stick to my Forza thanks

GT5 left me cold and FM3 felt too simplified and arcadey compared to FM2. Apparently Shift2 will be a proper sim but I'm sceptical. Race Pro is the best racer I've played on console (great physics!) but it was utterly devoid of any personality or polish.

I'm looking to buy a decent pc soon for some proper sim racers, console games just dont cut it anymore.

Forza has some magic, maybe not as pretty but it's a older game. I enjoy Forza lot, returned GT5. Not overly impressed.

Marc, add a few of us on your friends list if you play online.

GT - Broadspeed

I'll gift you a few things to play with, do you have the ultimate edition? Just so I know if you have the DLC cars.

Thanks for the offer but it's not mine, it belongs to my brother-in-law and he lives 120 miles away. Only GT5 for me.
