I have to supply some PS3s and Xboxes for a project I'm working on. What is the current hierarchy for them? I have PS3 Slim on my specification and Xbox Elite, can I get away with a lesser/cheaper option? Must have HDMI out.

Also a Wii is specified, are there different types? Must have Wii sports & Sports resort with motion plus.

I know nothing about any of this!

Previous iterations of both consoles have HDMI ports and support it too. The Xbox Elite is the superceded version to the new restyled xbox, but still in black. They can be bought used pretty cheap due to the packages being offered with the new design consoles.

The same will go for the PS3. Also supports HDMI, but as has been mentioned before, if buying cheaper used versions, PS3 offered quite a few, ranging between 40Gb and upwards. The advyise given is to for newer consoles, and the superceded design can be had for a fair price as well.

Not so sure about the Wii in terms of HDMI, although I was under the impression they had a port. Again, not terribly expensive and could probably get a bundle with Wii sports resort, as the consoles came with Wii Sports included anyway.

Do they have to be new? If so, you're options are limited to the PS3 Slim and newest Xbox 360. If used is okay you can get some older kit that still has HMDI for quite cheap. I think there is only one Wii and always has been, but it doesn't have HDMI.

The hierarchy is quite complex for the 360 and PS3, they've gone through a lot of changes.

Have to be new, so it looks like there are only a couple of current versions available?

Think the best option for the Wii (or the one that I use at least) is to spend a few quid on a component cable to replace the SCART one that comes with the console.

I'm not aware of any Wii to HDMI cable, but believe you can get general SCART to HDMI or Component to HDMI adaptors. I assume quality would suffer as a result, but is a way of getting round it if HDMI is essential.

Thanks, I've just ordered all I need from them, they did not have the 160gb PS3 in stock though, need two of them rather than the bigger one, will wait a few days to see if more arrives.

Have you checked Amazon for the 160Gb PS3? They're taking orders for when they'll have stock on Wednesday and are selling them for £196 at the moment. Which is I think a similar price to Tesco on that deal, and at least £30 cheaper than anyone else I've seen.

They are for a special centre for the unemployed, many unemployed people cannot afford their own games systems. The new centre has a games lounge and also a cafe/tv lounge.

Please tell me the games lounge is behind armoured glass, with a big sign on the non-games side, saying "Get a job and you can have one of these"

Yeah that's called a fking incentive for getting work!

That's not something I'd be proud of buying for.

Was hoping it was for a childrens ward or something like that.

The unemployed do have children, also the centre will be used by young people who have been excluded from school.
