Have any of you successfully rescued a PS3 Red Light of Death?

As thread title.

My 60 gig died last night, it was the fking GT5 B spec grinds that killed it in the end. Oh well.

Anyway, I've been doing some research and the RLOD doesn't appear to be necessarily terminal. I have tomorrow off so I'll have a go at repair but was wondering if any real people (PHers!) had fixed theirs?

I had this, I got mine fixed for free under the sale of goods act even though it was over 2 years old, it may be worth a try.

I'd imagine it is too old, bought it on PS3 release day.

I wouldn't dismiss the Sales of Goods Act.
I had a 4 year old £3k Plasma replaced under Sales of Goods.

My PS3 actually just died with RLOD on Friday. Its completely dead, I even had to dismantle it to get the DVD out !

There are a lot of video's on You-Tube which proclaim to be able to fix the red light of death problem.

I really think the SOGA won't be able to help me now, the PS3 is in pieces on the kitchen table...
I'll see how I get on and hopefully have some positives to report back!

Mine did the red light of death just before Christmas. I did quite a bit of reading up on repairs for it back then. But I came to the conclusion that on average people were getting about 6 to 8 weeks use out of a repaired console before it happens again.
I guess it depends if you have anything important saved on the console (photos, music, films etc) that you need to get off it.

Ultimately I decided to just get a new slim console and save myself further hassle and cost of it happening again.
