(Nealy) everyone has a highly powerful games console these days, but what about the arcade machines of the past?

The classic Defender. You could hear and feel this thing rumble.

Pole Position. Awesome graphics and sound (wasp in a jamjar).

Super hang on. Some were ride on bikes for gameplay.

Pac-land. The world most annoying music.

Berzerk. First talking game I think.

(yes I know some videos are from emulators or modern consoles)

There was also one which was a flight game that you sat in and the machine rocked around..

Great topic - When we were at school we'd go to the local swimming pool cafe for lunch and to play the arcade games.

One was this -

Imagine this at full volume (once you'd tapped/kicked the side of the machine for some reason) and the looks on the old folks faces as they tried to eat their lunch. Priceless!

Street Fighter.

But most of all I remember them not being able to keep up with inputs. A frustration I got to experience again with the Wii...

Out Run! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfU5eYAoIVc

More than a hint of Deodato in the Out Run music.

An auction I went to a few weeks ago had Space invaders but the very early version that's in what can only be described as a coffee table.

I can remember being a kid and playing on them when they first came out.

Ha, that was a bargain for £200, they fetch quite strong money now, although the market is a little flat due to the current climate.

What was the game where you were in control of a tank, black & white line graphics and you had to look down something like a periscope to play it? I've searched for 'tank command' with no results. Anyone remember?
