Broken PS3 Options

I think my ps3 blu-ray drive has broken. Wouldn't read any discs last night. Done a rebuild of the OS, no difference and just doing a backup and restore to check it's not software related.
However, I have a feeling it's probably a physical problem. It's an original launch 60gb machine.
Trying to weight up my options if the restore doesn't work, and I see them as follows.
1. Replace the BD. £55ish but no assurances it will work, no warranty. I'm quite handy but this could take time for delivery and repair.
2. Indie repair. £80, 6mths warranty. Time to send and return.
3. Sony repair. £130, next day turn around.
4. 2nd hand unit
5. New unit.
Sony repair is too expensive and I don't know how the replacement unit will have been looked after, mine is immaculate. The indie will do no more than I would to replace myself, not sure the 6mths W is worth the extra.
The tempting one is a new unit, bigger hdd, smaller and quieter but £200ish.
Have I missed any options, what did you do under the same circumstances?

Similar thing happened to mine, I was in the middle of MW2 so bought a slim before getting it fixed. After a while I sold it (less the cost of a new Bluray drive) to the IT guy at work.
He repaired it quite easily, and it's been going strong ever since. If you're handy with this sort of thing, why not:
1. Repair it then sell it on ebay. They go for a premium on account of being the only backwards compatible one.
2. Buy a slim. The noise reduction is pretty significant in my opinion.
If you buy smart and get a good price for the 60gb you might find yourself not out of pocket at all.

When the drive went on mine, it was under warranty, so it went back to Sony for warranty repair, took two weeks.
When it died completely after 3 years, I bought a new one, and paid Sony $60 for the extended 3 year warranty on the new one.
I did vaguely think of paying Sony to repair it (about $120 iirc), but by the time you price in the larger HDD, extra controller and so on, and that the repaired box is only warranteed for 90days (I think), it just made sense to get a new PS3.

The fact I ended up with Little big planet 2 and another controller and only a few £ down was a nice bonus.
