Am considering getting F1 2010 on the 360. I don't (and won't) have a wheel / pedals setup. Is the game playable using just the d-pad? I managed OK using this on Forza 2 and previous generations of driving games, however recently bought Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and find it extremely difficult in the controls dept, am guessing it was really designed for a wheel / pedals setup.

I'm not new to gaming, have had almost every platform going back to the Vic20 so don't lack skill! I am guessing that most recent driving games are optimized for a wheel. Is it possible to compete to a decent level in F1 without one?

D-pad no, thumbsticks are what I use, but you have to be making constant corrections to your line.

Agree with both comment, you can use a thumbsticks, you just won't be as smooth as using a wheel but like the other two, I seem to be doing ok

Sorry, meant thumbsticks when I said d-pad - thats the generic word I use for console controllers. OK so probably worth me giving it a go I think.

I only use a controller. I consider myself mid pack.

Get it and join in on some of the PH races! A mixture of joypad / steering wheels.
