Xbox Kinect

how does it compare to the Wii as far as functionality and accessibility to all ages?


is it worth getting Kinect?
or is it just a flawed gimmick?

Go on, I'll bite. Bought mine last Sunday from Asda. Got kinect adventures free and when I renewed my xbox live I got kinect sports free too, although it's not turned up yet.

So far, I'm very impressed with it. The two games I've mentioned are good fun to play with a few people or even on your own. The kinect itself is excellent and has some nifty little features I didn't expect.

To be perfectly honest,£130 is steep. Once more games have been released and the price comes down I think it'll take off. Depends how well MS support it from here on in.

Anything specific you'd like to know?

Got mine from £99 from ZavviOutled on eBay, but they're now back to £115. Tesco were also selling for £99 at one point too.

Yeah, I'm impressed. Only a very slight response to your actions. I use mine for a bit of "light" excercise when the weathers crap, or I can't be bothered to go for a run, not the most energenic thing but better than sitting on yer a*se with a pad

Kinect Adventures is pretty average, but Kinect Sports is a laugh and has some good games in it - I especially love Paddle Panic Great when there is a few of you to play too.

xbox kinect is the best of its type I think, got one at xmas and it got a lot of use to start with

problem is, theres a limited range of games for it right now ...a few sports games and dancing ones seem to be it (we have nearly all there was at the time)

so its a great novelty, and party fun game, but theres little of depth to be honest

great controlled, im sure better games will come out for it eventually - the wii wins hands down for the sheer range of games (we have both)

I've had it since Christmas (ostensibly a present for my 4 y/o daughter, but I'm the main uses at the mo.).
Absolutely kicks the Wii's arse in every respect. Whilst I agree the number of games ain't huge, there currently is someting for every taste- kinectimals is brilliant for kids, Your Shape blows wii-fit away, and even the missus has got into it with some dance stuff (Dance Central, the body tracking in which is very impressive, even if it's not my cup of tea).
KinectSports is great fun as well.

been looking about for these for a while but thought 130 was a tad much, but just seen what somebody mentioned about the zavvi outlet having them cheaper, had a look and about 10mins later im 99 quid lighter

i've used my sisters Kinect for Sports and Adventure. Seems allot better than the Wii to me, from my limited use of both.

One thing I'd add is to ensure that you've got enough space for it to work properly. Whilst they say you can use it from 6', I'd say you need 10' for it to work at its best - especially for more than one person playing at a time.

I think Kinect is great, the Wii is a relic in comparision.

£130 is alot for it but... meh...? Are addon map packs worth the money you pay for them? It's subjective.

Funny moment of "You only miss it once it's gone" the other day. Watching a film with the missus over the weekend and because baby Elise likes playing with the analogue sticks on the controler it gets put out of reach, in this instance that included out of sight. Needing to pause the DvD I exclaimed "Xbox... Pause..." only to realise in my horror that I'd forgotten to plug the kinect sensor in... "Noooooooooooo...!"

Unfortunately our new house (mid terrace) doesn't have big enough rooms to use the kinect sensor properly and I do miss it. I might even have to change the furniture around. Don't buy a Wii when you could get Kinect.

Pre-ordered one just before they were released and picked it up release day.

Within 10 minutes I had fell over white water rafting in the Adventures game and twisted my ankle.

Got the Your Shape at the same time, and that is pure evil, it was a case of have a go, miss a day, have a go, miss a day (unless it was just me finding muscles I forgot I had)

I love it, just don't seem to get much time for it, unless it's late at night, and half an hour on the kinect before going to bed doesn't seem like a good idea.

But, when we were getting the Xbox, it was a toss up between that and the Wii (pre kinect), and I wanted the Wii for the sports bit, but was over-ruled and we ended up with the XBox, at least now there is something that I can play on it!

This. Have both consoles and the Wii is just gathering dust now.

I would also strongly recommend getting Kinect sports with it - the one must have game, it's akin to mario cart or sports for Wii.

We had a Wii & sold it to buy the connect sensor.
It's great fun, much much better than the Wii for all ages!

We;ve got one very rarly use it for single player gaming - gets good use if theres a group of us.

Can't wait for it to be used in proper games.

cant speak for the other games but i have fitness evolved.

I find it very good for working out (funnily enough ), better if you have weights to use with it. You get all sorts of personalised workouts depending on whether you want to work out arms, legs, chest etc. It also gives you feedback going through the workout - lift your arms higher, dip lower, etc. Then their is thai chi and all the fitness classes, cardio boxing, also a fair bit of DLC if you complete a class and get bored of doing it at gold standard over and over...

The motion stracking is far better than any other kinect game i've played to date, it can differentiate between the layers of your clothing, stuff your holding etc, very clever.
