Think you mean Wings of Prey!

Preordered, but worried my system won't run it very well - initial feedback from the Russian launch is that it is a resource-hungry beast, severely restricted by an 'epilepsy' filter that Ubisoft insisted upon...bah.

Edit: hard copy from Ubishop.

Yes wings of prey was the console port of the IL2 they did for PS3 and 360

Warning: if you read the 1c forums or the cod forum at simhq, this really needs some careful setting up.

It appears that resolution doesn't make too much difference but dynamic shadows, mirrors and building detail appear to slow it down drastically. Some people really struggling to run it on monster rigs with all bells and whistles on; others with average rigs running it ok with some key options turned down.

Just don't expect to be facing hordes of bombers over London in your trusty spit just yet without a lot of stuttering!

I have it on preorder from direct2drive but away from home with work for 2 weeks so I have to be very patient! My rig ( i7-860, 4gb ram, 5770) which runs the latest games without any trouble, is going to struggle with this one....let us know how you get on.....

Have just downloaded my copy from Steam. A guy wrote on another forum;

"Apparently in the rush to make the anti-epilepsy filter optional, it's caused havoc with SLi and prevents multi-core use"

What the hell is a "anti-epilepsy filter"? Am looking forward to playing this later, but am worried it's not going to run too well. I have a i7 2600k, 8 GB ram and 2xGTX580 GPU's - I fear they're not going to be utilised to full effect..

Apparently sli actually slows it down, they admitted they porked sli somehow in the pre-release rush. Post on the 1c forums and I'm sure someone will help.

Sounds like everyone is having problems here :-( I have been waiting for this for 10 years now, bought DCS a-10 to tide me over whilst the dust settles.

I wonder if it is some sort of vsync to prevent flickering? In some games vsync can create randomly hoping frame rates from low to high which causes the stuttering some people complain about. If so it probably doesn't have a frame rate limiter to lock the rate to prevent this.

The "preventing multi-core use" might be seen because the frame rates aren't as high as expected with an uber-PC but that is because the rate is successfully locked on a system where vsync is working?

Just had a play, If you loved il2 you will be very at home. It's like meeting an old friend. Only in HD!

I have a pretty high spec PC that will run crysis 2 maxed but on this it is struggling.

Well I remember it took me a few years and a few pc's before I could run the old one maxed out. It looks like they may be going for the same this time round!

From 2008..

http://spong.com/article/15691/Ubisoft-is-Screenin...

Was just reading a post from one of the developers regarding COD...it seems they were near finishing the game, put it into the epilepsy testing lab and it failed a very very lot! They didn't have time to correct/sort all the issues, so it was released as is whilst they try to sort it and make it run better.

Looks like you may be able to disable the epilepsy stuff now..

OK, I have just had a few quick battles - Dover, London and Calais. (have my CPU at 4.5GHz)

There is slight stuttering occasionally, but otherwise runs fine. The Spits have no tracer rounds, which I don't know if it's a bug or intentional - but the Hurricanes do!

There's just something about the game that screams 'unfinished', though. Sound drops in and out (especially cannon sound) and the whole thing needs more optimisation. At the moment, it looks like a slightly better (graphically) IL2 FB/1946

ETA - And I really miss my LA7 from FB!

Vsync just matches the fps to a multiple of the monitor refresh rate to prevent tearing. Tearing is when the top of the screen shows a slightly different image to the bottom.

If the refresh rate is 60Hz for example, the max framerate will be limited to 60fps, but the problem is that if fps drops to 59fps overall, to prevent tearing, vsync will artificially reduce it to 30fps.
The next multiple is 15fps and that is a a very noticably low framerate.

I know smile however using vsync in MS Flight Simulator X on some systems created a very jumpy frame rate. As it did on mine where it would jump from 15 to 115 fps. This causes stuttering, which could be what has been talked about on the Russian previews with powerful PCs running Cliffs of Dover. We have a tool called FSLimiter to run on FSX that stops it.

On CoD they may have set vsync to be permanently on, either by the user setting the rate in the video options before playing or taken automatically via a scan. On my old CRT if I didn't set options and I ran a game for the first time it often defaulted to a low hz rate and there was a noticeable flicker. So if they force vsync to be set before the game can be played, as an anti-epileptic solution, then it could as a result be causing the stuttering problems for others.

It's just the only think I can think of that could be described as an epilepsy filter.
