Wings - aerial dogfighting game - anything similar?

As per title, I remember this being brilliant on the Amiga or PC.

Does anyone else remember it and can they recommend anything similar?

Also loved F22 or F29 Retaliator on the Amiga (can't remeber what it was called).

I've got Ace Combat 6 on Xbox.. It's very good but very easy until you're on hard setting.

If you're after a sim with more modern jets try Lock On, just watch out for the vertical learning curve!

Wings on the Amiga was awesome! Really cutting edge at the time.
I've just been getting all nostalgic and re-living the campaign here.

It was that much fun that you could overlook having to swap disks before playing every single mission!

There was talk of the Cinemaware games being re-booted a few years ago but the site seemingly hasn't been updated since 2007. Wings, Rocket Ranger, It Came from the Desert and the rest on the iPhone would surely be winners!

Other fond amiga flight sim memories are:
F-15 Strike Eagle 2
F-18 Interceptor
F-19 Stealth Fighter
Wings of Fury

never could get into F-16 Falcon!

I haven't played any PC flight sims for years but the Ace Combat games on Xbox 360 are pretty good.

Yup. It's only use during daylight operations was that it looked a bit like a Hurricane if you squint. Made a pretty decent early night fighter though.

Have just pre-ordered IL2 Cliffs of Dover on Steam. I loved IL2 FB and played more than any other game, so am very much looking forward to this - after the disappointment of Wings of prey.

Wings was a superb game, I never did finish it though - it's on my to-do list as I still have the save game disk somewhere.

There was a GBA version, not quite as good but not bad.

Dogfighting in Battlefield 1942 was a giggle. You could play Battle of Britain and have Germans with ME109s and Ju88 (gunpoints manned)... oh yeah, and the Spitfire. And Zeros vs Corsairs over Midway.
