Cheap idea's for steering wheel setup?

I bought a second hand M/S wheel for my 360, and revelling in it. Forza laptimes are down on my controller ones, but getting better.
However, it's difficult with the FF on your lap, any ideas for cheap and easy set ups? I did fix it to my dining room chair, but it does the old back no good! I use a low sofa, but can't afford a bespoke wheel stand due to up coming wedding!
Any suggestions?

An ironing board is OK, but it helps to have weird shaped legs if ours is anything to go by as its tricky to position the pedals where the folding legs dont get in the way of getting the pedals in a comfortable position. If you sit on the sofa and it has quite a deep seating area then a lap table like you might use to serve breakfast in bed seem to be used by some, but how good they are I dont know.

Getting the pedals far enough away would be a problem though wouldnt it? If I look at my Wheelstand Pro the face of the pedals must be about 80-90cm further away from me than the face of the wheel and when sitting that ratio feels about right, not too upright pushing down on the pedals and not too straight legged stretching to reach. To get a similar driving position with something like the ikea desk I suspect you'd need to cut the back support out, then pass your legs over the U shaped lower shelf/brace with the pedals out the other side.

I like this idea. Im currently using an ironing board which is NOT comfortable!I was thinking of getting a used bucket/car/retro kinda seat and then fashioning a frame for it. The idea would be to make a decent hash of it and have it double up as a seat when not used for gaming
I may scour e-bay etc for some cool seats...
I used an old Peugeot 306 seat mounted onto a wooden platform. Used the standard seat mounting positions so it's as adjustable as it is in a real car. The steering wheel stand is made up out of some old bits of steel and is proper heavy duty but still could do with being a bit more sturdy! TV stand/pedal bit is a modified shelf unit that was laying around. Cost me nothing.
I couldn't find a gaming seat that sat really low (single seater style) so I made this beast, it's all pretty heavy so isn't that mobile but I love it and was well worth it!
Its all alot tidier since I took this picture but essentially the same.eta. Forgot to say, before this it was fixed to a desk and I was sitting on a commode!! lol
