Just had a call from my son & he's informed me his PS3 won't eject the disc.

Reckons all else is working fine, so the game stuck inside will play OK & all other controls appear to work with the exception of eject. It's only 16mths old & is the newer smaller PS3.

Anyone any ideas what could be causing this? Is it a known problem & is their an easy fix/reset etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Has he tried the normal solution of turning it off and turning it on again? Mine did that once, and that sorted it.

If the problem persists take it back to the shop, but DO NOT perform surgery on it yourself, it voids the warranty.

If all else fails, use an instrument of great precision....

Assuming he has tried the on/off but i'll check.

Unit was an Xmas present the year before last so is now 16mths old & therefore out of warranty.

Are you sure about that? I seem to remember mine had a very long warranty, 3 years is the figure in my head.

Is it making any noises when he tries to eject, either by pressing the button on the console or trying to do it via controller?

Cheers.

He reckons it makes the correct noises as though it's going to eject & the light flashes, however after a few seconds it just starts to try & read the disc again. Also reckons it's no longer actually reading the disc & firing the game up. Looks as though the warranty may still be in force so worst case we can request a replacement.

I insure mine against everything for £20 a year with Game. Anything at all goes wrong, new console no fuss. Back up games like GT5 to a USB stick as well.

Do PS3s have the old "paperclip sized" hole near the drive, that you can poke into and push the drawer out with?

Won't fix the problem, but will allow a workaround in terms of retrieving the disc and putting a new one in.

Google it, there are a few videos on youtube about it, i think if you repeatedly press the eject button as you turn the power on it ejects the disk but this has to be done at a certain point.

No drawer on the PS3 slim - just a slot.

Hope you get it sorted OP. Tempted by one of those insurance policies myself now...

It's basically this, you have to constantly flick the back rocker switch on and off while pushing the reject button. It will make a horrible grinding noise. If it doesn't eject in 30 seconds. The console is probably fubared.

I only know as when my PS3 went tits up i couldn't get BlOps out so tried this, it didn't work for me as i had the YLOD but nothing a couple of knives and a screwdriver couldn't fix. Totally fked the PS3 after that and no chance of repairing it but i couldn't miss a night of Cod with you guys hehe.
