Veho Muvi HD playback

I've recently bought a Veho Muvi HD, I did a small trial of some onboard footage and it's playing back smoothly on the little preview screen but when I put it on the computer the picture skips about every half second. I reinstalled and updated quick time but that didn't do anything, any ideas?
