Creating a PDF photobook

I've recently used the Jessops software to create a photobook, which is then uploaded to their server and they professionally print the book for you.

I would like to find a piece of software that has similar quick and easy functionality, that I can use to create a PDF photobook. I just need simple features to be able to place 2-3 photographs per page and add simple text.

Is this kind of feature available in Photoshop Elements, or are there any good freeware options?

I haven't heard of anything specific. Lightroom's Print module lets you create custom layouts but I have never tried to use it to do a book.

Would a bog standard work processor (e.g. MS Word or OpenOffice) be too manual?

Once you can find something that works to print to paper you just need something like CutePDF to convert to PDF.

I use Lightroom. However, this might be worth a go http://www.tucows.com/preview/320236 never tried it though. I'm sure there will be others out there.

Adobe InDesign is the industry tool for this kind of thing.

I created this: http://www.nickgrant.co.uk/retrospective/pdf/Retro... using Photoshop, just set some templates up and created a JPEG for each page, then combined them using Acrobat.

If you just want PDFs, you can "print" pdf files from your aperture or iphoto photobooks.

ie do all your layout and text from within aperture or iphoto and instead of ordering a physical book online it can output a PDF file of your book.

Is that what you mean?
