Another compact thread..

Ok another 'which one' thread but I know nout about compacts.
My sister has just finished college, got her first job and looking to buy herself a little camera. I said I would help her and the guys in Jessops did me a really good deal on my DSLR so thought I'd take her up there one day this week after work.
I set her off looking on net earlier thinking she can find a few and I'll come ask the good folk on here for some opinions later
She likes the look of the canon IXUS range and the Sony Cybershot seems to be her favourite at the moment but as said I know nothing about them and the quality and have never used a 'modern' digital comapct myself.
Looking at 14-16 megapixel, image stabalising, decent screen, reasonable zoom and likes the idea of panoramic recognition stuff the Sony has.
Is there anything else any one could recomend as well?

Worth noting that Sony use different cards to the rest of the world, they're a wee bit more pricey and unless you're a Sony freak a wee bit less compatible in terms of what you can plug them into.
That said, I got my mum one of the W range a couple of xmases back and she loves it.
I've got an Ixus 75 and a Panasonic TZ6. Like them both, and to be honest you're best just going to the shop and having a play to see which you like using best.

It just makes life that wee bit more difficult. Eg if you've got a laptop with a card reader then there's a good chance the Sony card won't fit (unless it's a Sony laptop).
Means if you take them out and about anywhere, then you've got to take the camera cable as well. More a pain if you're away on holiday than anything else.
If she's thinking about going away travelling or anything then a bit harder to get hold of and pricier and might work in fewer internet cafes.
It's not end of the world stuff, and the for ease of use the Sonys are actually really good. I bought mine for my mum as when you spin the mode wheel you get an on screen description that tells you what the mode is for. Saved her reading the manual and me spending ages explaining all the modes.
The TZ10 is £180 on Amazon just now, and their top selling camera. It's not very girly looking imo, quite a masculine design.
When I was away with it there was a girl in our group had a Panasonic with shorter zoom, mainly because it was smaller and came in a red/pink colour.
I've taken some shots I'm really happy with with the Ixus, but if zoom is a feature that's of interest then the Canon SX range are worth looking at too.

Canon S95 wins many of the review awards at present. I bought one cos it's so small, it lives in a jeans pocket. It takes bloody good snaps (and can go to full manual).

I'm another S95 fan, they're really excellent wee things. You'd be happy with any of these though.
