Anyone ever photograph a solar eclipse?

I was on the was back from a shoot yesterday, and me and another cameraman started discussing our showreels and we starting listing shots we'd love to get for our reels. Top of my list - a total solar eclipse. No idea why, but it's just something I'd love to have at the front of my showreel.

The next total solar eclipse can be viewed in north australia next year- and i've always wanted to visit Oz! Got a friend from from oz, and apparently the date of the eclipse is right before the rainy season, so it'll be a bit of a gamble, but I'm going to start planning it.

Anyone ever photographed an eclipse? I know there's a wealth of info out on the net- but theres also a wealth of smart guys on here too, so i'd prefer the PH advice!

i'm probably going to take a fair few cameras and bits of kit- i'd be interested to hear what kit people have used for eclipses in the past, and what settings worked best.

And of course, i'd love to see any photographs

Not going to win any awards but it's an eclipse!

I wont insult your intelligence by trying to advise on settings - I spotted this out my window and had around a minute of frantic blasting to get a shot before it went back behind the clouds. This was at 1/2000, F36 and ISO100. If I was to try again I'd probably go with a bit faster shutter and open it up a wee bit?

I saw a steel band round the sun once. It was a total calypso.
