Can I use an old lens as it works?

Years after putting my slr in the cupboard and gradually getting more frustrated with a compact, I have moved to a dslr (all are Canon).

I attached an old lens onto the dslr last night and it worked, autofocus moved itself to a crispy image. I only tried this once.

My really dumb question is, will it cause any damage (power), or continue to use as it works?

Nope , if it works (if its an EF/EOS mount) it's all good!

Only thing is its field of view/focal length will be a bit longer/narrower than on a film camera (due to crop factor/smaller sensor)


(assuming you didnt go out and buy a 5D/1Ds)

Yes it is (no posh stuff here).
That is good, I was worried I could damage the camera.
