Is this Nikon's greatest ever lens?!

Just picked up a Nikon 24-70 f2.8 AF-S... ooh, it's just lovely.. everything about it is perfect! I think this one is a keeper

Certainly one of the best current ones, but it's meant to be I want that, and the one below and above, but I will get the 14-24 first.

14-24 is probably more of a challenge to make I would say.

24-70 is a bread and butter workhorse lens though so should be good, especially for the price!

I'd agree Love mine.

Only problem is there is no way you can blame the equipment anymore if your shots don't look like you imagined!

Was never that impressed with mine. Dont like zooms as a general rule but i find the canon equivalent produces much nicer pics.

Seriously, give the Tokina 11-16 a try if you're shooting wide. Either on DX or just use the 16 end on FX. It's a cracker.

moved from a 17-55 2.8 which was a great workhorse, but a tad short for all round use with the Tokina in the bag.

You should try the 24-120 F4. I almost bought one, it just didn't reach far enough for me

Is it as sharp as the 24-70 at f\8-11? Might be a reasonable walkabout - portrait lens.

I'm currently looking to see if I can buy one of these secondhand.... cheapest I have seen new is just over £1200. I bought a 70-200 F2.8 VRII a few months ago and now fully appreciate what difference a great lens can make.

I think the 14-24 is supposed to be the best zoom Nikon make (as said above due to difficulty of manufacture) ...it's noticeably better than anything Canon do...apparently some Canon Pro's use one with a converter.

I have the 16-35 f/4 (on a D700) for now, that's not too bad either, but I could do with the extra few stops on the 14-24.
