Nikon Live View focusing?

Anyone else had an issue with this? Trying to do a shot of a watch and wanted to do a focal stack, so into manual mode, live view on (first time I've used it in manual focal mode) and off we go. Or not, as the case is. I get the area I want looking crisp and sharp, take the shot aaaaannnnd.... an area 1/2 inch in front of where I had focus in live view has got it instead. Very confused!

Never bothered with it, tripod mode or handheld it just seems a bit too flaky to be used.

My live view is the same, a bit hit and miss really.

You'd expect live view to be aligned with actual results. On the off chance it's not, have you tried lens calibration?

Im not gonna lie to you Andy, I have no idea what you are talking about.....

I did try calibrating the lens some time back Andrew when having doubts over the softness of some images. I will try clearing the settings if I can remember how and see if that makes a difference!
