Lightroom Question!

In the print module its easy to creat a square white border around pictures. In the develop module this can only be done with post-crop vignette but that approach has a corner curve. I want to have a crisp 3-4mm rectangular border for about 350 pics I want to look like old prints. The way I'm doing at the moment is individually in PS and I'm going every so slightly mad...

Wise ones - how can it be done - preferably with a preset!

I did a load of prints recently where i uploaded jpgs to photobox. I created the jogs with a border in LR3. I used the print module to create the border and in the 'print job' section changed 'print to = jpg file'

Thats exactly the effect I want but it seems every 'print to file' asks for the file to be 'named' one by one. Not a batch acton I was hoping for like export or whatever. With the amount I need to do thats too slow. There's got to be a quicker way!

You could do it in Photoshop by creating an action to add the white border and then run it with the batch tool on all of the images.

I'm sorry but any chance of a step by step? I want the same 3mm border on differently sized proportioned / photos

You can do it in LR through the export module. There is a Borders option as standard I think but don't have it in front of me. There's also a plug in for LR case LR/mogrify that gives you more border options which is what I use

alternatively in PS record your steps to add a border as an action and then you can do batch operation to apply it to all your files

There are loads of tutorials on you tube that can guide you through these.

Top tip output the results to another colder and don't overwrite your originals!

The way I'd do it in PS is as follows:

Create new action (in actions palette), call it something appropriate.
Open a sample image and then hit the little circle button in the actions palette to start recording the steps.
Now perform the steps to add the border. I'd pick a common dimension (width or height) that I could live with for all the different proportions and use that for image resize, then add a white background layer and increase canvas size to generate the border.
Then hit the square stop button to stop recording. You now have your action created.
Then go file/automate/batch from where you can select the source files, destination location and file name and select the action that you want to apply.

I've sped through the steps there, but hopefully enough to get you going. If it's not clear, shout.

That's odd. In LR3.4.1 if you select multiple images, then click 'print to file' it asks for a filename and then creates a folder with <file>1.jpg, <file>2.jpg, etc in it. Sounds like you have it sorted though

There is a very cool plugin/software for mac that automatically creates a frame with the same colour which is most dominant on the picture itself. I don't know the name of it, just have seen the results and it looks great for some photos.

Does anyone know the name of it and is there a windows alternative/option?
