Best places to sell and how much for

Chaps, not a for sale thread - just looking for some advice.

Looking to upgrade my Nikon D300, and also looking to shift one of my lenses too - Nikon 10.5mm fisheye DX with case etc.

Any ideas what I should be looking to get for each of them (all tip-tip condition with cases etc), and also, any tips on where best to sell them? I don't want to use ebay or gumtree unless absolutely necessary, and I'll list them on PH obviously, just wondering if there's any other useful places for DSLR kit.

Took a quick gander at ebay and saw some used D300 non-'s' models for £580 and about £200 for the lens, is that about right?

Hi Stu, can't help with the prices (I'm a Canon man) but talkphotography has a very active classifieds, you've got to be a member for so many posts before you can use them but it is a good forum.

I've sold kit to second hand places / shops on a trade-in basis before - and been happy with the prices / service.

I've bought and sold a load of stuff on eBay and had no problems - definitely the best way to realise the best price imho

Once you've taken off eBay's cut, Paypal's cut and standing in the post office, I'd rather not bother - especially with the number of dubious types on eBay now.

Fair enough but my eBay experiences have all been fine and even after fees I got a lot more than the trade in

I got just shy of £600 for my D300 on ebay about 6 weeks ago, 30k actuations and a slight scuff on the zoom in button. I started it off at £500, got 6 bids I think and about 30 watchers. Seller was spot on, really nice bloke, guess it's luck of the draw on it though

I'd definitely second this.....very active and obviously avoids all the fees. If you price your kit right it'll sell pretty quickly. Good source of pricing information too.

I bought a lens on there recently.....it was absolutely mint, couldn't tell it from new.

I'm really not a fan of ebay so try to avoid it where possible. Not desperate to flog the D300 on, just a case of upgradeitis. Talk Photography seems pretty good though £550 seems to be about the sweet spot looking at various places, so I'll go for that I reckon.

Avforums also has an active classifieds area but Talk Photography will definitely be good the D300 is a popular camera.
