Best place to take photos of Loch Lomond??

I'm heading up to Fort William tomorrow morning, and as I will be passing Loch Lomond on the way, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some lovely scenic photos. Now as Loch Lomond is so big, i wondered if any of the PH community could recommend the best viewpoint to visit and put my camera to good use? Also, when i am staying in Fort William i'll be doing the same at Loch Linnhe, so i guess the same question applies to there also.

Any suggestions please?

I had a cruising holiday on Loch Lomond years ago. I can't give you exact places but the further north you go the more mountainous and interesting it gets, and if you can hire a boat and visit some of the islands that will give you many more options and angles than just going round the outside.

There are some quite nice views at Tarbet (as you turn right towards Crianlarich)... but to be honest, Rannoch Moor & Glen Coe are the places to take photos between Glasgow and Ft William. (Mind you, it'll be pissing down, so they say)

I'd start in Scotland. Trying to get a picture from France or Ireland might be tricky

Glencoe and Rannoch Moor are much better places for photographs than Loch Lomond, especially on the side of the A82. If its a cloudy day you won't be able to see any of the Munro's as the cloud base is generally at about 2000ft. The best place on Loch Lomond without walking up Ben Lomond is a wee stoney beach 500m-1km North of Balmaha but again its on the other side of the loch from the A82. There is also a really easy hill called Conic Hill that has great views of the area.

My advice is take a couple of shots from the Black mount beside the burger van then spend time in Glencoe/Rannoch Moor area, take shots of Buachaille Etive Mor from the southside of the River Etive. Maybe go down and see the old peir on Loch Etive(salt water loch btw). You can get some nice B&W's down there when its cloudy. In Glencoe there are some nice waterfalls and the Glen itself. At the isles of Glencoe Hotel you can get some decent shots of Loch Leven (did a wedding there recently - http://www.miltonweddingphotography.com/wedding_po... ), just wonder round onto the grass on the East side, no one will stop you.

Anyway hope you get some decent shots!

if you want to fit the whole thing in the frame i'd recommend hiring a plane.

Cheers for the advice.

I got some photos of Loch Lomond at Tarbet, and some at Black Mount and Glencoe.

Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad so they could have been better. Planning on going back next year when the weather is hopefully going to be better.
