Old canon g series

Looking at a cheap good camera to take on a family holiday rather than lug the 40d around. Are the canon g series cameras good for the money. Looking on eBay, a G5,6 or possibly a G7 can be had for £50-£70 ish.
Looking for a resonable camera for not much money.
Anyone have / had one of these?

I used to have a G9 and it is what got me interested in taking pictures. I'd never had a camera with full manual control before. Not the most amazing image quality, particularly in poor light, but fine for what it is. Keep the ISO between 100-400 (and 100 wherever possible) and you'll be happy for the money. I didn't realise they had got so cheap.

Here are a couple of examples. I remember being really pleased with these at the time but somehow they're not as good as I remembered. I blame the many great landscape photographers on here that share their pictures.

Noticed the G7 has a fixed larger screen so am looking at those. Most seem to be less then £100.

Bought a G9 for £125 so chuffed with that.
