Events restricting professional camera equipment

Very common at events such as festivals, concerts etc. because the organiser/management/record company etc. etc. own the rights for any images or video of the artists.
I presume as Jimmy is a 'celeb' and the event will be filmed, they are are taking the same stance.
Nothing you can do about it other than pack your highest quality 'non-professional looking' camera and snap away!

Legally no doubt I suspect a photograph is a photograph whether taken with a phone or D3X.

Well, if the wording is as you posted you could try arguing that you don't have a tripod with which clearly means you are not professional.
Plan B - how old are the kids? If they are of a certain age and able to put on a show you could prime them to burst into tears and make a scene (better chance if girls but could be even more effective if boys) and refuse to move until the 'officials' change their mind.
Unfortunately other ideas that come to mind would require planning and purchases and given the event is today that does not seem to be an option.

I went to an event at Wembley Stadium which said 'no pro cameras'. Since I went by train I'd have no option if 'caught' so took a POS P&S instead.

This has happened to me once at the V festival. I'd been invited by a festival sponsor so I thought taking a decent camera would be OK, but at the gate I had to hand it over (it was a Nikon F-something 35mm SLR in those days...)No idea what they do with them though because i doubt the veneu wnats to store them
Got it back from them through the post a week later, all intact. Mind you, one of the staff had taken a cheeky frame of themselves posing for the camera. Could have been a lot worse I suppose...

This would probably be about the maximum i would class as an everyday personal use camera.

The rules they have imposed are as much about protecting the livelyhood of the Pro photogs that are there doing their job.
If you are allowed in with your Dslr and a large bottle on the front , what is to stop you thinking 'I could make a few quid here' and taking the 'bread from the mouths' of the real Pros ?
