Video cameras for school use?

So the kids school is looking to get some video cameras - they don't have any specific model in mind, but are describing them as flip cameras - by which they mean ones with a flip out screen.

What would be the thinks to look at? Would be for a primary school, filming and also animation use. HD good I guess (and presume its standard these days?).

I'm on the PTA and we're being asked to fund them. So suggestions please....

Call me boring but I'd want to make sure they can read, write and do sums first.

The problem with the Flip range of cameras is that Cisco are dropping them so they will be unsupported after 2013, although I suppose it's possible they'll get damaged first anyway.

What about the GoPro HD range? quite robust, especially if you put it in the plastic case before giving it to the kids:

Although as it happens we have those aspects under control.

I think the GoPro are going to be a bit much.

Well they are average consumer grade so possibly not particularly child proof. The Kodak ones seem to have quite a few negative reviews on Amazon which would make me a bit wary, although I'd probably try one of those over the Flip.
