I want!!!!! I have been thinking about a go pro on a copter for motocross but I'm sure that there is more to it than some electrical tape, a camera and a helicopter.

Eta: the other thing is was wondering about is focus. If that's a 7d then there is no auto focus. Would they just try and keep the same distance from the subject constantly?

I suspect wide angle lens and narrow aperture at generally quite long distances keeps things in focus pretty well. Very good though. Most impressive.

Biggest issue, when I trod this path 15 years ago with video, is a vibration-free mount.

Second biggest issue was downlink quality (although that tech has come on a lot since then)




Third biggest issue was not ditching it in an ornamental lake in Brunei

Surely they wouldn't be downlinking the feed though? Especially given the data rate of HD.

If they weren't getting some kind of feed back, I'm not sure how they would be able to follow the subjects so well?

I don't think they'd do very well without a video feed. They wouldn't need to stream HD video back, I bet they're just using the 'video out' port connected to a small transmitter.

Yes, it was 'video assist' so we could aim the camera and frame the shot. No HD in those days.

The first version used a Pulnix and relied on a microwave link to record on the ground, but the signal would break up on almost every pass. As camcorders got smaller we changed to on-board recording and then if the signal broke up it didn't matter so much. Very difficult to use and direct though.

I did some serious resaerch on this so much so I ended up getting quotes for a copter with 5D mount
