Best I can find is EOS300 at £766 (with the 18-55 Canon lens) and 10D at £1141.

Is there a cheaper deal or a better kit to go for?
Some of the Jessops kits look quite good but I havent worked out the value of them yet. (ie, is it cheaper to buy it all seperately).

I havent bought on Ebay before. Will my buying status give me a poor rating with sellers?

Do DSLRs come up on there much? I only scan for Griff wheels about once a fortnight and thats it.

You need a trip to the US or, more accessibly, Andorra (cheap at the moment as it's between seasons).

The prices you quote are available (more or less) in Dollars or Euros respectively. ie you'll pay c. 800Euros/Dollars or 1400Euros/Dollars. And the pound is very strong at the moment.

Both are top cameras. The 10D is absolutely superb.

Don't underestimate the need for good lenses too. I just upgarded a "std" Canon lens with one of their "L" range, and the difference is massive. Sadly, the prices are too...

I saw plenty of D70s there - but all new and mostly from Hong Kong. The sellers might say they will pay any VAT but I'm very sceptical, and even if they do there's still import duty. Even if it all works as planned, you'll get a non-UK spec camera that is unlikely to be covered by warranty.

'You pays your money' etc!

I was in our local Dixons a couple of weeks ago and they had 2 EOS300D's for £530. They are closing down hence special prices. It might be worth having a look if there is a branch local to you still open!

thats a bargin.

I dont understand the Dixons sales, why dont they just put the stock in a different store.

I recently bought 2 Hoya filters worth £60 for £9 in a Dixons closing sale.

Anyone know of a Dixons closing soon? I'll drive to it to buy a DSLR if its not too far.

Andorra's in Europe so it ought to be Euro spec. As for proof, I don't know - sometimes electronic goods have an 'E' on the end of the model number, but then again it could be done by serial number. Or it might be a sticker on the box, I dunno.
You could try calling Canon UK to check the warranty position and also ask how to spot the various versions.

Why does it even matter if its not UK spec anyway?

I bought a camera in Hongkong that was perfectly ok (got it half the UK price too). I would still have it now if some Greek fecker hadnt nicked it.
