Poorly digital camera

A mate has just given me his old Canon DS6041 slr camera. It's showing an error as two of the memory card pins have been bent. Has anyone experienced this before, if so, can it be repaired? And how much should I expect to pay?
I also need to buy a lens, can anyone suggest decent one to get me started?
